I headed down to Salem Pond at about 8:30 this evening to fish til 10:00. I'm not sure if there's a name for the rig I was using but I think of it as kind of a reversed drop shot. I had a bullet weight and swivel and then about 18 inches to a small (16) treble hook packed with power bait so that it would float up a bit. I used my tried and true lemon twist flavor. Caught a nice channel cat on my first cast. Only took him about 20 seconds to hit it. He was the biggest cat I've ever caught but he got off while I was scrambling for the net (which I left in the trunk of my car). Oh well. I'd have thrown him back anyways. Never had much luck trying to clean the dumb things and as good as that meat it, it's just not worth it to me. A couple casts later I caught a little planter rainbow on the same set up. I decided to keep him as I haven't had any fish in a while. He was just about perfect for one serving off the grill. It was pretty quiet down there for the last hour or so. Beautiful night.
