Hey all,
Anyone have any recipes for mouse patterns. Interweb search brought up a lot of pictures but few recipes (only spun deer hair). Looking to target big Rainbows and Pike up here and I need big flys!
Thanks!

How about a foam mouse? Here is an illustration in a PDF format.[/#008000]

Hartz....really simple pattern.
Streamer Hook #2 - #6
Black Thread
Tail: Tan, Gray, Black Ultra Chenille (leather strips also like stripping a zonker strip of hair)
Brown, Black, Tan close cell foam cut in a strip (thicker the foam the better)
And key ingredient.....MUSKRAT STRIP ( it is water repellent)
Tie in tail, then foam strip. Then add Muskrat and wrap the hook length.
Tie off, then separate hair on top and fold foam over. Tie off, but leave a fair tag. Experiment on the tag. I leave them about a 1/2" to start, then cut back if needed. You can get some really cool effects pulling it through the water:

Thanks Dryrod and Flygoddess. Thats exactly what I'm looking for. Spinning all that deer hair is time consuming and I'm not the best at it either. These look easy and probably effective. Plus I have all the materials already so its even better!
But keep them coming. I'll post some pics with monsters soon (hopefully).[cool]
Oh ya, and I'll have to look into getting some alligator clips and steel cable for holding newly tied flys. Thats a good idea.

Ive often heard that mouse patterns are deadly in the last half hour of light but never tried them.
