Just wondering if I could get any advise in setting up a new rod and reel. Im looking for something that good handle some big fish found in the lake ontario area. However, im just wondering if i could get some help in setting something up thats not to specialized, like just for bass or whatnot. any help is great.

Welcome to BFT Feeshaman. My suggestion seeing as you don't say how big a fish your going for would be a 7ft rod, med-med/heavy. A 2000 series reel that will take 12 lb line. I have had good luck with P-Line brand fishing line and Shimano is my favorite brand of rod and reels.
