Fished Lucky Peak this A.M., and my wife and I limited on all sizes of kokanee, including one at 17" and another at 17 1/2". Lost lots, of course. Those two were extremely fat. Did pick up more smaller kokes than usual, most about 12". It was an odd morning of fishing. Started out doing fairly well at 19 and 25 feet on the downriggers. Then it just turned off. Noticed a boat doing well on the surface, so we brought them up to 15' and shallower and it was hot and heavy fishing. A Double Dees and a OO dodger and chartruese hootchie did well, but my wife did best (naturally!) on a Jack Lloyd 2-blade with a Kokanee Pro with the green and red beads . Corn marinated in Pautske Nectar. Not every boat did well. Two boats pulling out at the ramp had caught 2 and 4 . Others, however, were nailing them. Mike

Thanks for the report. It seems like for every kind of fish there is a pile of new equipment I have to buy to be really successful. I saw people pulling in the Kokes at Ririe last night and thought man smoked Kokanee would be great even in the summer.

Ain't that the truth, Windriver!! In regards to smoked kokanee in the summer, when, tell me, isn't it good?!! The only problem with Lucky Peak this year, is that the kokanee are getting so big, it is going to be more time-consuming to smoke them. I might have to fillet them, but then there is the problem with pin bones. Oh well, this is a very good problem to have, right?! Mike

I usually eat a lot of them in the winter from ice fishing I just have never targeted them in the summer. Too busy fly fishing. I guess that might change in the near future.
