hello my fellow utahns! this is my first post. I heard about this site from a fellow coworker of mine,so i decided to see what it was all about. And i must say there are alot of info out here. helpful information to be exact. So i have a question. I plan on going to utah lake tomorrow with my son . we're gonna be on the right of saratoga boat harbor and was wondering where are the chanel cats right now. I will be using white bass, shrimp and nightcrawlers. are they still by the weeds or are they by the rocks. should i cast right into the weeds or next to the rocks or try to throw out my back and cast as far as i can. and by the way i will be on shore. any info would help.

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Not a lot of reports the past few days because the upsy downsy weather usually either keeps kitty chasers inside or keeps the kitties upset and not cooperative.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]My guess is that there will be cats moving back into the edges of the reeds after a day of decent weather. But, since the spawn is mostly over, there will be a lot of cats in deeper water too. In short, you will probably be able to find some both next to the reeds and out further. Bring gear for fishing both ways and keep moving until you find the fish.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As long as there have not been big winddriven waves during the previous 12 hours or so, the cats should be in and around the reeds all summer. They like the reeds for shelter and for hunting food too. The water levels have stayed up so there is plenty of depth for them in the reeds.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good luck.[/#0000ff]

thanks tubedude i've been reading your posts for about a month now and I must say you are one of the most knowledgable fishing guru's out there. I plan on getting your book soon. but only 1 problem i need to get a float tube first. hopefully my son can bring in a big one. he's caught white bass and bluegill but I want to see the Smile on his face when he brings in that big one ond doesn't know what the heck to do with it

Welcome to this knowledgeable forum. I've learned a lot from many fishermen on here, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

I was crappie fishing in there and using a jig and put a whole night crawler on it hanging off all over. Walk the bank around to the far side and using a long rod dip it in all the holes in the garbage along the shoreline and in front of all the reeds. I was catching many bass up to 4lbs. Your son would have a great time with a nice bass on the line.....
