Not good conditions compared to Meadow Creek pond Glassman's has shade but only half the pond can be fished and the cotton trees around made my line get tangled, do to the fact that the cotton is all in the water.

What do you expect? It's a pond in the middle of the city [Wink]
Glassmans pond is a Community fishing pond used mostly for kids to catch a few fish. Sadly it's turned into a bum paradise and kids don't even dare go there anymore. I live a block from the pond so I have a good idea of the conditions. I have also volunteered for the Urban fishing program for kids up there. That pond would be my last choice of places to go fishing as an adult.
Why not go fish the Ogden River or Weber River???

heck that would be my last choice to go as a kid. Took the kids to willow pond last week. Learned my lesson. Next time I'm going to go for a drive. I cant believe the people that was there, and so inconsiderate. "I think I'll stand RIGHT next to this person"

I know what you mean. There are too many bums trying to catch dinner and they don't care about anything but that. I feel bad for all the 4 inch BlueGill that everybody has to keep too. Wonder how they fillet those little guys [crazy][crazy][crazy]
I decided to leave the community ponds to the bums a long time ago. I'll take my kid out on the boat when he gets older and he can catch some real fish. Or at least on the river where the fish don't have green meat.

yea glassman's pond is dirty. not many places to fish it. But there are some big ol largemouth in there. my biggest came from there a little over 6 pounds. The best time to fish it is early mourning when no one is there. That is my experience there. It is good when you don't have much gas to go anywhere else. Pineviewfisher

Let the "bums" have the community ponds, keeps them from littering the decent fisheries.

Not really... I still see plenty of bums other places too. There should be a maxium age for fishing at these ponds. Save these places for kids.

Not really? How can one be in two places at once? If they are fishing a community pond they can not be fishing a lake or a river at the same time.
Therefor the more time "bums" spend in urban fisheries, the LESS trash we have in recreation fisheries.
I think this was actually the strategy behind urban fisheries in the first place.

There are bums everywhere. Have you seen a drastic decline in the trash at Strawberry, Causey, Bear Lake, Willard, Utah Lake, Pineview, etc etc etc since the urban fisheries program was created? I haven't.

I doubt the reasoning behind the development of the program was to reduce the bums at Strawberry.

lol, yeah you are right

I hope you don't feel I disagreeing just to be disgreeable. These "bums" just piss me off, no matter where they fish.

I really would like to the see the urban fisheries be targeted to young anglers ONLY. It would be great to see some of these programs that give free or discounted lunches and organized activities to under privelaged kids during the summer, take the kids to these places and teach them to fish. Much better than having them roam the streets all summer long.

When I volunteered for the youth fishing program, our fishery was Glassmans. We would get there to set up for the day and see the same 40 something guy with a stringer of 10" rainbows every week. I am sure he was there every day. If we could put an end to that, and have plenty of fish in there for the kids, I would love it.

I think the pond is for the public it is nice to be able to get out and fish without wasting Gas i mean it's 250 a gallon at maverick so I can not go to far. I was talking to the guy who takes care of trash at Meadow creek and he said the big problem is people catching fish and selling their catch in the parking lot. I haven't been able to catch any thing but it is nice to just get out and get the line wet. I also told the ground guy about my local area pond where the gounds guy at Fort Bonaveture told me that the pond was for 14 and younger. the guy at Medow creek repiled I thought that if the pond wanted to be stocked by fish and Game that the had to be open to everyone. I also aske about trees he said the kid whould go and mess with the trees that they planted at Meadow Creek and that is why there is no trees there. So ther you have Bums can be bad and kids can kill newly planted trees.

PS the Meadow Creeek Pond will be close Monday and tuesday for killing of the water weeds
