Hello all,

I am heading to Newton and Cutler this week and was wondering if anyone had any reports on either of these reservoirs. We won't be targeting the muskies, but are interested in the panfish at Newton and the channel cats at Cutler. Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Philbert

i would not go to cutler. I went out there the other day and it cost me $220 on a lower unit repair. the water is up and you can not see the stumps, you hit one and youre done

It depends on if you are going on the weekend and if you are fishing from the boat or the shore. If you are going to Newton be prepared for a huge crowd. This little reservoir has been overcrowded this year. It has been manageable the past couple of weeks because of the colder weather. Now that it's warm again u will have to deal with unpolite wakeboarders. These guys are ruthless at newton. Cutler gets much less pressure, u might be able to hide out in one of the bays at newton. Good luck[sly]

Fished Newton early Tuesday morning with no panfish action. Targeted them for two hours and nothing. Water seemed a bit cool and they were not in the brush. I forgot the finder so I couldn't tell if they went deep. Maybe this warm weather will bring them up! Good Luck and post! I have never done good at Cutler. The occasional Walleye and bass. LC

Cutler can be hell on a boat. Went out with my brother a couple weeks ago and he banged up a new prop. He hit so hard it could have been alot worse.

Tuesday was just bad all around there. I think it was the bluebird sky and high pressure. I was after bass and tigers, and found nothing in the brush. I moved out to deeper water and got some taps from what I'm guessing were panfish, but since I was using larger plastics, no hookups. I finally caught one small perch drop shotting a small reaper. I left after about 2 hours.

Thanks for the info. We will not be taking a boat out, but will be fishing from the shore. We are hitting Newton this evening primarily for bass and crappie and Cutler later tonight looking for channel cats and maybe some crappie. I will post a report tomorrow. I figured that the water may have warmed up over the past couple of days and brought the bass and crappie closer to shore. My buddy lives in Clarkston and went out last night to scout. He said the water was the highest he has seen. He saw what looked like a 3-4 foot tiger nailing something on the surface repeatedly. I bought some steel leader just in case for my second pole!! I will post a report tomorrow morning.

It's way high. I can't believe it's nearly July, and it's still completely full. It's nice living close enough to run down to scout or just have a quicky trip. Clarkston is a nice little town. My wife and I have lived here just about a year and love it.

How was your trip? I will be heading up to Newton/Cutler this Monday for the same type of fish, wondering if it will be worth the drive.
