I called Pat Ryan last night to see if he would spend a couple of hours on the water with me this AM. He didn't have anything else scheduled, so we fished at the dam for bass and crappie. We caught 10 bass, 4 crappie, and 3 bluegills by 8:00 AM. I wanted to try some different water for bass, so we left the fish and went hunting. As it turned out, the current was too strong in the place that I had in mind, so we looked at a different docks for crappie for 30 minutes or so before we quit. Nothing on the deeper docks that we tried this morning. If you want to catch fish, never leave fish to look for fish. I didn't care though and I don't think that Pat did either. We had a great morning of fellowship.

We were using 1/16oz jigheads and bg shad bodies. I tried a 1/8 oz jighead but quickly gave up on that lure. All the fish were deep, at least a 20 count. Biggest crappie was 12.5 inch by Pat and I caught the biggest bass, about 16.5 inches long. We had several bass in the 13-14 inch range. Mostly largemouth bass too, which surprised me a little bit. We did land 3 spots out of the 10 bass.

We had been fishing about 10 minutes and saw this boat approaching us, but with our backs to the lake part and facing the dam, I didn't look around for a minute or so. When I looked around, I believe that I could have just stepped over into their boat. An elderly couple had come to fish for bluegills, crappie or something like that and really wanted to fish where we were. I just maintained my cool and position and they finally moved off about 30 yards after I caught 3 or 4 bass and a couple of crappie right in front on them. At 8:00, we just let them have it, told them how deep the fish were and left. Later on at the ramp, they were leaving at the same time that Pat and I were leaving. I was sitting in the boat showing Pat some of my spare crappie plastics and discussing the how-to stuff that I do. The old man came over and asked us if we had caught them all. We had a good talk, I gave him 3 of my lures that I had dipped, glued and caught all my fish on. Told him to try it tomorrow. He is going to Cottonport to fish in the morning. It is never too late to learn something. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
