I know a few of the guides for Henry's Fork Anglers. They do a good job and all know what they are doing. Their shop is in Island Park or you can go to ther site: http://henrysforkanglers.com/

Here is an idea: Go on Craigslist on the East Idaho page and post an ad that you and a buddy want to fish Henry's Fork and you will offer a donation to the guy that wants to take you on their driftboat. You could probably do it for right around $100. I see a lot of those trips go for over $400 for two anglers on a boat. I know those guys need to make money but its not worth $400.

You could buy a used raft or an aluminum boat with oars and float it yourself and leave it on the bank cheaper than hiring a guide for day.

Think about your options. Guides are great if you have that kind of money to blow.

Good luck.

how safe would taking a raft be on that river? im thinking about the box and what size would you suggest because thats what my parents want to do

Unless you are an experienced white water rafter I would not recommend you float the box. Not that there are a lot of big rapids but depending on flow it can be technical.

Kind of nice to know where the diversion dams are too[Smile]

I hate to say this but u just set urself and others to be busted for illegal outfitting and the cost of paying fines etc and the safety factor is it really worth that cost. Hope that the IDOFG, F&G and others is watching this post u just gave them all the ammunition they need to come visit you and anyone else that use this method of getting illegal services busted. Hope its worth it. and the cheap boat ya came in on.

im just spending the money and getting a guide everyone ive talked to says its worth it soo i'll just go with that

You "hate to say this"? Really? You seemed to enjoy saying it. Your passive aggressive tone makes me think you were, or are, a guide.

All the ammunition they need to bust me? So you are saying if I suggest a method of how to steal something and someone does that; I am to blame for the theft? Nasty slippery slope fallacy that you are living by. Notice the term "Donation".

I have no soft spot for 'official' guides. They are making a profit from a sportsman's resource. Checked out with IOGA or the Coast Guard means nothing to me. My issue is with their rates. It seems exorbitant to charge what they charge to float someone down a river and say 'cast there'.

Hope its worth it and the cheap boat ya came in on?

Not nice.

Again, if you 'hate to say it' don't say it...

I bet you row a Hyde.

Nope not a guide and never have been, ive just seen to many people taken for something they paid for and didnt recieve. You may not like there fees but, they have been established over many years of trial and error, passed through many agencies even the OFG board and are set. These legal guides have insurance incase of accident injury etc, the illegals just take ur money and done have any of this. Beleive me Ive seen it happen.

And if u wanna know the truth how i know what happens, i used to work for one of the agencies that dealt with the illegals all the time so I do have first hand knowledge. And donation dont work in court believe me it just doesnt work.

The other thing is, i dont even fly fish or fish at all on those areas of the Snake, sounds like you have some personal issues that dont need to be taken out here. Advancing illegal activities in idaho or any where for that matter is not what i would call or term a sportsman. I wont get into the name calling or what ever you call it that you do. Not worth the time.

That kills me..here I am on the shore and they have the whole river...most aren't not very friendly either. I always go out of my way to be nice to people..like saying hi or a wave when they float by...more times than not I get a cold blank stare thrown my way..maybe it's because I'm using a eggbeater and I'm drowning worms[laugh]

My statement of "hate to say it" is an oximoron of sorts. Ill say it it doesnt bother me. And I never said i didnt have issues with what some of the permited outfitters or guides do, i just said that like it or not, only certain people are permitted to conduct this activity on the rivers, any one else doing it even for a "donation" is illegal. Been shown in court so like it or not, thats the law. Hard to prove as it may be, thats the case. This isnt the first place topics like this are discussed whether its big game, waterfowl, upland game or what every a vast majority of Idahoans dont care for it, but, not a whol lot we can do. If people dont care for guides then dont use them but, if ppl use illegal outfitters, what else will they do illegally, just like some of the other posts on here abot illegal fishing etc and hating to turn people in. O well. Its never gonna be resolved and we can go on but o well, thats the life of this beast.
