Well landon and I made a mini-vacation out of the Gambler tx. This was the first time I have slept anywhere other than home or the hospital since my daughter was born. We went down Friday night and stayed in Scottsboro, man they get it on in S'boro on Friday nights, but this is a fishing forum so I'll leave that part out. We blasted out of Goosepond and headed north to one of the very few mats thats begining to top out. We started with a Gambler Cane toad. We got 3 huge blow ups but they all came off down in the grass which was frustrating. After about an hour of that we started bouncing down river hitting deep areas. We caught fish on every stop but we finally hit a weird spot that had a ditch that runs off the river bar with a lot of rock. First cast with a 10" worm produced a solid LM. Shortly after I decided to try a c-rig Bacon rind and the first cast in 17ft. of water produced a fish that went 4-13# on my scales. Landon got his heart broke twice on the same spot before landing a 16" kentucky bass on a red ugly otter t-rigged. We made our way back to Goosepond hitting river bars as we went catching a fish here and there but nothing that helped. Upon getting to the weigh-in, I saw several sacks of fish way bigger than mine and released my fish. They were very lively. I might have had a pinch over 10# which was not much considering. I will say I had fun fishing with the Gambler baits which I dont have much experience with. They ran a great tournament and had 188 boats show up. I hope they come back next year! I was able to find Gambler baits at Soddy Custom Tackle. Check out the color "florida five O".
