Didn't hit Cascade last year and am looking for an excuse to make the drive this summer, if the action justifies the trip. Otherwise I'll stick to waters closer to home [Boise].

We thought about going up there instead of LP today, but I called Tackle Toms and his report was discouraging. Said the trout are not hitting and the perch seem to have disappeared also, from a few weeks ago when it was good fishing. Mike

Bummer....that's not real encouraging. [:/] Might just wait for catching to improve, but I definitely want to spend at least a day or two up in that beautiful area.
Well, that leaves CJ and/or Lucky Peak as probable candidates for later this week.
Decisions, decisions.... [

Was up there last Sunday, fishing was great but the catching was poor, water is still real high and trout seen to be scattered. I would wait a little. Good luck, Grizz

thanks grizz...think i'll wait on cascade.

I just got back from a week up at Cascade. We had our Bass tourney this last weekend and it was slow fishing. From 5:45 AM to about 6:30 AM the bass were hitting jerk baits on every cast and then it shut off. Only caught a few the rest of the day.
I did see some perch being caught but no trout. Water temp was 66 to 69 degrees and clear. A lot of boat traffic and probably only going to get worse for this weekend. I'd wait a couple of weeks before heading up. I'll probably head back up there to our cabin at the end of July. Hope by then fishing improves.

[#000000]Thanks for the report/advice....guess I'll wait on Cascade...either sneak a trip in before, or after my Alaska trip [17th-25th].[/#000000]

Dean, thanks for hooking me up with this site. Is it me or has the trout fishing become much tougher the last couple of years at Cascade? I hope it's just me.
In either case, I am committed to the family and we are heading up in a couple of days for a family camping/vaction. Trout and Perch we hope. I heard there is some good crappie in there?
Thanks in advance!

If nothing else works at Cascade, try for kokanee. No, not coho. We slammed them a few years ago about this time. For three years we got into them. Fish and Game asked me one time at the docks, how I'd done. I said we limited out on 18-19 inch kokes. He laughed, and told me we were catching coho. I told him that I'd caught coho in Cascade many times, but that these were kokanee. He asked to see them, so he could educate me as to the difference. He said, "put your finger in the mouth like this, and you will feel the teeth of the coho, which you won't find on kokes. Damn, they were kokanee!! He seemed shocked. Most people don't think to use shoepeg corn and go specifically for them. They always seem to be in one location--on the west side across from the city dock. If the trout and perch don't pan out, give it a try. Mike
P.S.: It isn't you; the fishing has not been as good of late for trout.
Geno,
I'm sure you'll find some fish to cooperate....Crown Point is the primary focus as you already know, for trout, perch, bass, and crappie. Talked to a guy who caught a nice bunch of crappie jigging off Crown Point early last month - several were 14-inchers.
You've got plenty of other options for locations to hit, and don't hesitate to check with "Tackle Tom" regarding what he's heard.
Tight lines and happy camping.

Thanks Mike and Dean! I'm looking forward to spending a few days on some water that presents several options.
The Kokanee thing is the first I have heard. Definitely will give that a try as well!

I have seen big bunches of bright red Kokes kegged up at the mouth of Poison Creek in the fall looking for a place to spawn. I caught a couple one time off Sugarloaf a few years ago.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

[#000000]I've also seen fall spawner kokes swimming along the rip-rap at the dam on several occassions in the past.[/#000000]

Speaking of kokes....when are we going to Flaming Gorge? Just re-read Herzog'z article in the May issue of STS. [

Well, we had a great trip in regards to family fun on the lake. My kicker stopped putting out water on day two so our trolling was pretty much over.
During the first day and a 1/2 we did manage 2 trout over 21 inches, several from 16 to 18 inches, 2 Coho that were 20 inches and a couple more around 16 inches. Everything was deep, getting them mostly on the lead core line or the downrigger (25-30 ft)
3 of the Coho we caught drifting Crappie jigs.
On the first day, we also got 6 nice Crappie off of crown point but nothing during the remainder of the trip?
It was wind through out most of our stay but the kids had a blast.
We could not find the Kokes. One old timer told me they were all hanging in the upper portion around Rainbow point?
Thanks for all the tips guys!

Well, Gene, sounds like you sure outfished the majority. I drove my wife and some of her sorority sisters to a U. of I. float trip on the Salmon today (Sunday) and stopped at Cascade to see if it was as good as the Statesman reported. Heard lots of

tales: two days trolling for one trout, one day of fishing for two, etc. Glad you got into them. I did hear that the good fishing was by the island. Mike
