I have never boated on strike before but I have heard a few horror stories about the hazards up there. I have heard that there are many lava shelves that are lurking just below the surface in many places. I don't know if this is true or not so any first hand knowledge of this fishery would be great. Thanks in advance for your help.

jetsled: I wouldn't be overly concerned. I've not personally had a problem at Strike but I troll for rainbows mainly in the greater pool around the dam area and occasionally up the Bruneau arm. There was a bad protrusion directly off the AF ramp at one time that caused some damage to props but they've changed the route in and out and I haven't heard of any problems lately.
It does vary greatly as you would expect with a dammed up river so I stay mainly in the river channel when at speed.
I'm more worried about the South Fork arm of Arrowrock Reservoir than any other area in this part of the state. It has a couple of areas I only idle through... One being just short of the "Y" where the south fork and middle fork meet.

About a week ago I watched (heard) a boat hit something about in the water about 250 yards SSE of the new break that was built in front of the ramp next the the MHAFB ramp. The folks destroyed their prop. FYI

Swanpig: That is a big concern; appreciate the heads up! My next Strike trip I'll check that area out with my sonar to see what's there. I think one purpose for the break was to resolve that problem in addition to slowing traffic off the ramp.
