Headed up to Deer Creek today to try for Walleye and Bass, I realized quickly I didn't have a clue what I was doing. I switched over to popgear and worm to try for some trout and had a few hits and even got 2 big ones right to the boat and lost them while trying to net them. I think I need to work on my knots. To top it off the fish finder was dead. I would love some tips for bassin at Deer Creek, I guess I need to just spend some time there. It was my first time on the lake. Does everyone use Jigs, Lures, or what for bass, I tried jigs, and Rapala's, but it was tough without the finder to help out on depths. I am not looking for any secrets, just some helpful tips to get headed in the right direction. Thanks

Hmmmm..... I have never had the time to try this, but people say it works really well: get like a watermelon-colored Gary Yakamoto Senko Worm, and put on a drop shot bass hook through the middle of the worm( this is called wacky) and throw it weightless or as a drop shot! hope this helps[cool].

"pop gear" is a generic term for several kinds of multiple blade trolling attractors. The different names come from their historical inventors or in the case of more recent introductions what ever the marketer wanted.

For Smallies on DC, like Smallies everywhere, jigs with rubber things on them Dropshoting,and deep crankbaits. For places, the rocks, and DC has lots of rocks.

See the rocky shoreline with the two sandy beaches on either side? The rocks are where the food is, that's where the feeding bass are. Find places like this at DC, you'll find SmB.

Do you recommend tube jigs, or plastics with tails, lead head jigs, I fish alot of jigs ice fishing, and for walleye on utah lake, I have just never targeted small mouth. And is it good to tip the jig, I am going back up Friday morning and will try some more stuff, this was the first time to have the boat on the water, so I was also working some bugs out, plus I usually rely on my finder, I guess I should work more on instinct. I have plastics of every color and size, especially tube jigs, just wondering if that is the ticket or the twisty tail jigs are better, As far as walleye, I tried bottom bouncers, but without my finder it was hard to stay on the depths I was after. Has anyone had luck with rapala's, thin fins, ect.

Yes to everything unless something else is working better. Tubes, twisties, either in what ever color seems to work. Dark lure dark day/light lure light day.
For Walleyes, I would stick with a worm harness. They are proven walleye workers and if you make them yourself they are way cheap and you don't mind losing them, so you let them run right banging the bottom. That's where Walley lives. Right on the bottom. Troll slow, very slow. If your not getting hung up on the bottom every once in a while, your not in the zone.

I have caught Walleye with both dodgers and 4 blade popgear. What you pull behind it and your trolling speed, I think have a greater effect on your success. I have also had good luck with a perch pattern HOT N' TOT.
