Does anyone here fish for catfish at lake lowell? I am thinking about trying it but want a little info if anyone has any. Also where can a guy get a float tube in there? Thanks Ron

i dont ever target them but every time i go down there i catch the crap out of them. i just bounce a night crawler off the bottom and then there they are. as far as launching a tube, i would imagine from any of the marinas, or if you want to get away from people take one of the many off road trails.

Where should I start the cat hunt? I have never been to the lake before. Areas to launch are kind of tough to see on google earth, other than the ramps.
Is there any size to them? Thanks Ron

i would assume in any of the deeper bays with some underwater structure, or standing timber. the biggest one i caught was about 14 inches, but again, i was out to catch wall eye and crappie. as far as launching, the best bet is to zoom in with google earth at Hite, which would be closest to you, use your sonar and find your drop offs, rock piles, brush etc. as far as going specifically after cats, im no pro, nor even novice, i would say im barely a beginner, i would PM Tubedude, he knows what hes doing when it comes to cats, and might even have some great advice on powell itself! regardless, if you go down there, you are in for a treat with the scenary and fishing!

I think we might be messed up. I am talking about lake lowell just outside of Nampa Idaho. Are you talking about lake powell in utah? Ron

I have been out a few times down at the end of Greenhurst Rd. There is plenty of walk-in access there.
Currently the water seems to be a little high and think it needs to be a bit warmer. I've been out a couple of times and not much action except for some bass picking the bait off of the bottom. Did better last night on the snake and caught two 24" and one 18" at dusk.

Thanks I sent a PM. Ron

I have never targeted them there but have caught plenty of them. I have caught some huge cats on spinner baits along the outer edge of the weeds. The upper end where the New York canal comes in seems to be a hot spot for them. Also straight East of the Caldwell boat ramp is a good spot. There are all kinds of places to launch a tube along the southside of the lake. Just drive around the south side and you will see several parking areas and one boat ramp towards the East end of the lake.

Thanks for the tips. I am not from the area so I don't know where the caldwell boat ramp is I need a little more info. I feel like this is catfish for dummies, and I am the dummy [laugh].
Thanks again. Ron

I forgot. Why do you think not very many people trarget the catfish? Is it the mercury in the water? ROn
