Yes, three lakes you rarely hear fishing info about. I was wondering if anyone has fished any of these lakes and has any tips on the wheres and whats. I don't really care what kind of species, though I once heard that Mona has wipers. Is that really true?

Welcome to the site Wilco. They did plant wipers in Mona years ago but no one ever caught one that I know of, so they never planted them again. I don't know much about Gunnison other than it has catfish and some panfish but Redmond has northern pike. There are several folks that can give you plenty of info on the last two lakes but TubeDude and Fuzzyfisher are the guys that come to mind. WH2

Mona res has blue gills, large mouths and plenty of carp. There used to be some 3-4 lb large mouths in there but some locals would go daily bring their entire families and keep all the big large mouths. There are no wipers in there mona res dried up years ago and everything but carp died. Ok Kent now you can stop making fun of me!![:p]

[cool][#0000ff]In addition to the info already provided on Mona, it is now not likely to be allowed to go dry again. It has received plantings of the endangered June suckers so water levels will be maintained for their survival. Otherwise, carp, bass, bluegills and who knows what else. There have been many species in Mona in the past...trout, wipers, walleyes, etc.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Gunnison was also a better lake in the past. Before it became subject to almost annual dryouts by the water users (farmers), it used to produce great fishing for monster perch, big largemouths and hefty channel cats. These days it seems to be merely a carp breeding pond, and the carp are flushed downstream into the Sevier and Yuba Lake. A couple of years ago there were some largemouths planted in Gunnison, but after the first year I have not heard of any being caught.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Most longtime Utah ha ha's know ABOUT Redmond, even if they have never fished it. It is a small shallow spring fed lake, with highly mineralized water that remains unfrozen in the winter. For a few years after pike were first planted, there were some big ones taken...while they were still cleaning up the former residents. These days most of the pike are small...under 30 inches. There are also some channel cats and lots of carp. Supposedly a few largemouths have survived the pike wolfpacks but I have not heard of any being caught for a while.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Most Redmond regulars fish chub minnows or anchovies on a steel leader under a bobber...or on the bottom. Easy shore access along the north side, next to the road. [/#0000ff]

Note: Redmond is the source of the Pike in Yuba as it connects to the Sevier River. Lots of hammer handles in Redmond, but they have found a home in Yuba with plenty of forage.
i have to agree with everything TD said.. and add just this.. i have heard rummers that the cat's have been makeing a come back in gunnison.. and that there was more bass planted,, i fished the lake for years it was at one time the best cat lake in the state and would say the best perch lake in the satate as well.. but

ley it's not much more then a carp pond now..
redmonad is a great place to catch pike, cat's and carp.. as TD said chub, sucker, shiner, and anchovy's will do it on most day's.. the dog day's of summer are not the best time's to fish redmonds for the pike tho.. ya might catch one every now and then but they dont bite to good in the summer.. there is bass in there still and some good sized one's to.. not as meny as the good old days but still some..
see pic TD there are bass in that there lake..lol and some of the other fish cought at redmonds..

[left]Thanks for the info everyone! I love how helpful everyone is! It sounds like Yuba is a lot better for pike. Where would one go in that giant lake to find pike? I'm guessing the same techniques as Redmond?
