Thanks to all the members who gave me advice about taking a bunch of new fishermen fishing. The worm and bobber worked well at Rockport on Friday. We caught caught a few small mouth, however they were the size of baitfish[crazy]. Here is the question. If you are catching a lot of small fish near the shore, aren't the larger bass just a bit farther out in slightly deeper water? I would also assume that a crankbait could be used quite well in a situation like this? Let me know what you all think and if there is any validity to my line of thinking.
Any way, we spoke with several others that were up there on Friday and they hadn't caught anything, baitfish or otherwise. There were loads of boats trolling out on the lake, but they didn't have any success either, as far as I could see.[fishin]

That is generally the case, bigger fish deeper. Crankbaits can be good sometimes, but I would opt for drop shotting or fishing a tube jig down along the bottom. That always caught me a lot of bass at Rockport.
