Well it looks like we may have stumbled on a way to get rid of the carp. Of course the tree huggers will be totally against it.

Ha ha ha! Tree huggers? I say get rid of the carp! Use the @#$!*& virus!!! I'm a tree hugger! Just not the extremist tree hugger that thinks colored toilet paper is dangerous for environment.[laugh]
The overall "plan" to get rid of carp in Utah Lake is so darned stupid, its total exploitation of tax payer money plain and simple. Governments always think they can spend your money on whatever they want. They will be trying to "get rid of carp" for God knows how long.
If we are to safeguard the environment it should be the citizens held accountable and the government but lets not lend taxes to some private company and net these fish for the next thousand years!!!! Silly idea! Argh![frown]
The idea is they are afraid of killing other fish species in the lake cause too many carp dead means smelly odors
and a threat to other fish. But there is no threat to other fish at Lake Mohave.
Look at Lake Mohave in Arizona here is what Andy Clark, fisheries program manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Kingman Arizona office. Here is what he says.
Quote:This is not a threat to public health, and it is not affecting other wildlife,” said Andy Clark, fisheries program manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Kingman office. “However, people should still avoid handling the dead fish along the shoreline and, until this die-off ends, we’d suggest anglers avoid taking carp and focus on the other species the lake has to offer.”
He added that this is not a water quality issue, which would have impacted all species of fish in the lake.
So you can eat fish from Lake Mohave.
Here is the article I read:

I say bring it on! Let the commercial fisher dudes use their nets to scoop up all the floaters! Less collateral damage on the kitties and eyes.

whoever put the damn things in the lake should be kicked right square in the twins!!!

I promise to look the other way if some one decides to bring back some water from havasu...I have to look at that lake every day and its sickening.[:/]

I am all for any attempt to get rid of trash fish but the

thing is that once we do get rid of them someone is going to plant them right back in.

Im all for getting rid of Carp in UT lake hell Im all for getting rid of all carp every were but a VIRUS...[shocked] think of the corrlateral damage that could occur if you read the whole article.
Reed Harris states
"Well, the disease down at Mohave affected a lot of other fish besides carp."
(I know Reed Harris he use to be my neighbor he a very intelligent person.)
Also what if the virus mutates in a strain that effects more than carp [:/] Birds and animals will be gorging on these dead fish who knows what bacteria and virus's the host already carrying. The strain could combine becoming even more deadly killing anything in its wake.
I dont think anybody wants a deadly case of fish herpes [crazy][crazy] We've already seem pandemics of swine & bird flu now fish flu... [pirate]
Not to make litely of the issue but never good to integrate a virus into a uncontrollable wild habitat.

I'm not sure if its good or bad... But we do have lakes that only or mostly just have carp in them and the water only goes on crops...One that I can think of is Pelican, it has only a few carp and none of the water from there goes to any other lakes or streams so maybe they could test it there.... Another lake mite be Yuba, the water from their only go so fare and dries up....
Just a thought...

[#0000ff]Nobody expects to completely eliminate carp from Utah Lake. The goal is to reduce their numbers to the point that predators and natural mortality will keep them in check. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There is essentially no way to completely eliminate carp...short of nuking the lake and letting it and all of its tributaries remain dry for a couple of years.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Carp are not something planted by bucket biologists. Our pioneer forebearers did that for us. [/#0000ff]

Are you saying that you have a water nuke?
