So I went to try and catch a catfish this evening after work. I took along my 5'6" light action rod w/ a #2 hook and a swivel sinker, baited up, and tossed it out to fish the bottom for cats. I also took my 4'6" ultra light action rod with a #8 and no weight to toss out the almighty wax worm for "sun fish" to kill time waiting for a decent bite. About 40 min pass, I have re-cast my catfish rig twice (to check my bait and take up the wind slack in my line) and i have tossed back to the lake 8 or so small blue gill and the odd pumpkin seed. Here I am on the bank with the setting sun and I can feel the tell tale taps of a gill hitting my wax worm, I give a jerk to set the ....... a pause in the line and a bend in the rod ????? ..... Then boom my reel starts to sing like an opera star [shocked] !!!! I tighten up on the drag with a fish on and after a good rod bending, line stealing fight I net a freaking 18.5" catfish! Not on my cat rig .. no no no .... on my little sunfish set up fishing w/ 3/4" wax worms, god bless those things [Smile] (for the record this is the first catfish I ever got) I think my rambles would suffice to say it was a mighty fine evenings fishin [fishin]

On a side note how do i clean/fillet this thing????

keep on fishin

i caught 2 four plus pound catfish on a rod that i made out of the end of a 2 piece rod and a reel that i found in a trash can and i made the handle. its about 3 and a half feet and i made it to catch gills for bait but that was exciting.

I caught my first catfish in a way similar to that.

It was getting late in the evening and my wife wanted to go home and put the kid to sleep so I put my cat fish gear away and still had my little 5.5 Ft rod out with a rubber orange worm on the tip so I threw it in one more time as she strapped the kid in the car seat and instantly when the worm hit the water something took my hook and the bobber was deep in the water. My reel was screamin! After a few I pulled out a nice 5 pounder.

Good catch [fishin]
