After fixing the sprinklers, mowing the lawn, running a gas line for a new stove and installing it I decided it would be best if I spent a couple hours at Jordanelle to top off the day.
I was excited on my way up the mountain, it had been a couple years since I fished Jordanelle in the evening. I flashed my pass, grabbed a receipt and away I go!!!...kind of...apparently there was a firework display at Jordanelle tonight and everybody who had a boat wanted to watch the fireworks from their boat. The funny thing was is that just as I was about to leave the fireworks started and I had a front row seat from the boat ramp, no boat needed. Anywho, after waiting in line for twenty minutes I finally launched, drove my boat up on the sand (the dock was chaos) ran back to the truck found a parking spot ran back to the boat, whew! Is it really worth it?
When I arrived at where I wanted to fish the water was dead calm and there were fish surfacing in pretty shallow water...bass? It's only 6pm...too early for a topwater bite. Started walkin' the dog and BAM! First cast! Lol, nice fish but it's aim was way off. Only caught one off the spook before a slight whisper of a breeze picked up. Changed to a popper and game on. Only caught 40 over 12" and ten were over twenty inches with a few at nineteen but I forgot my camera was in the glovebox...LMAO[crazy]
The tally was 13 boated and of course, the biggun' got away. It was perfect-cast-wait for the ripples to fade-give one little twitch-before I could make the first twitch a huge smallie came halfway out of the water. Did it get it? Should I set the hook? Should I wait for the line to move? HOLY**** that was a big fish. Swings are free so I set the hook and felt the weight, awesome! I was using 12lb mono so I pulled it away from the tree or so I thought and watched it jump right at the base of it! Branches everywhere! AHHHH! As soon as it landed it swam right out and headed towards me, nice. What a fight, right up to the boat. Of course, the ones that get away are always bigger but it's my story [Smile], I'd put it 21-22" and fat! No picture but I sure did enjoy the fight. I can still see my popper flying through the air past me as I didn't know whether to grab the net or not...good times.

He's right about the shallow bite. I was wading on the soutth side of HS 2 weeks ago and knocked the crap out of them on a Riverside white grub. Toward dark it was every cast action and I remembered thinking, as I saw the smallies hitting surface flies everywhere, " Man, I should have brought some poppers with me." I've gotta hit it again on my days off. Perch are showing signs of making a comeback too and the trout action is really good.
