When I was a child my father took me to places where we could catch brookies. I remember walking along streams and fishing very small ponds. To date that has always been my most enjoyable type of fishing.
My father is gone now and I have kids of my own and would like to introduce them to the same type of fishing but haven't a clue where this can be done. I live in Meridian Idaho and would appreciate any suggestions you might have for this type of fihsing within a couple hours dirve of my location.
Thanks in advance
John

I too love those little brookie streams. I caught my first brookies on moose creek in Victor Idaho. I can remember those days very clearly.
I don't know much about the west side of the state hopefully someone will PM you with some information.
People usually don't mind giving up information on large reservoirs or lakes that can take fishing pressure. They are more reluctant to give up information on small streams that can be overfished by a few internet lurkers.
Let us know how you do on your quest.

I have been fishing South West Idaho for over 20 years, and I can honestly say that I can't think of a single place like that in less than 2 hours driving from Boise. Marshall Lake, not too far from Burgdorf (north of McCall) is about the best I could suggest, for what you asked. As for what it is like today, I can't say, cause I haven't been there in about 15 years.

I would really appreciate a PM? that would be awesome!
I too live in meridian and have been looking for those fabled places I went as a kid...lol It is amazing to me that I can't find the sweet spots and you never hear about them but you know there there..
I have fished lost creek when the trout are running and it was quite a show. Also the Nfork of the Boise right there above Idaho city is really cool when it turns on. There are some great camping spots at both.
One other place you might try is Tri Pod up hwy 55. Last time I took the kids they all limited in no time and moose were swimming the lake. It was cool, we fished the creek coming out of it mostly....worms and marshmallows all three...
Good luck,
Jeff

Go to Warren. Take the Warren Wagon Road north past Burgdorf, then into Warren. There are many dredge ponds full of stocked rainbows and, just north, several streams draining north. Those streams are full of brookies! My personal best is only 10", but, one day, I caught 75 Brookies !

Just came home with 17 Brookies, 45 min from Boise. Been eating Brookies for the last three days[cool]. Also came back with a gallon of Huckleberries for an hour and a half pickin'. It was a great weekend!!
