The Washington Fish and Wildlife just predicted a pink salmon run coming into the Straits of Juan de Fuca in a few weeks that will be the largest ever; twice the size of the run two years ago (they only run on odd years in Washington) that was 3 million. The largest prior to that--and it was dynamite fishing--was 600,000. In the past couple of runs, you could head out from the docks--we fish at Sekiu--and limit in an hour--so if indications are correct, this year will be one to remember. Two years ago, we never were able to get all three poles in the water. It was that fast. There will also be plenty of kings and a very good coho run mixed in. Although pinks are by nature a smaller salmon, they have been running pretty good sized. When we were out there last time, the state record was broken twice in the same week with 11 pound + fish. The coho are averaging about 6 pounds currently, and will put on weight fast. If you have a chance, you should get over there. Mike
