I am thinking of going to the Gorge over Labor Day weekend. I know, the crords will be huge. However, will the Kokes already be turned and spawning or will they still be in their balls ina prespawn and good to catch.

I guess my question is when are the best, optimal times to go to the Gorge for kokes? I could take time off to go at a better time. The wife and I want to get some yummy kokes.[sly]

All kokanee salmon caught between Sept 10 through Nov. 30 must be immediately released at Flaming Gorge

To answer your question, Yes. The kokes will be in their pre spawn areas. many will be all hooked jawed and pink and many even Red. They have already started to turn pink and hook jawed already.

They can still be caught. Just remember to go easy on them. They are ready to lay out some eggs and hopefully a few will survive to grow into some nice slabs for down the road a few years.

I would say go now. The sooner the better.

Any ideas as to which bays are best and the approximate depth?

I would hit any of the bays North from the pipeline to wildhorse and up to anvil. I would be looking at between 45-55 feet.

Purples, blues, Pinks
