I am looking to get a different fish finder and the cuda 242 is in my budget i was wondering if anyone has one set up for their float tube?

I had the cuda 300, To be honest you can't afford it. You pay about 100 dollars and what you get is a poke in the eye with a dull stick. Then after you get the poke in the eye they take the stick and shove it so far up your, well you get the picture. If you set your sights on a 1500 wat unit thsat runs about 200 dollars or less you should be fine. TD has a Humminbird 565 I think. He likes it a lot. I NOW have the Eagle 480 fishmark. I like it a whole bunch. I am going on record saying the 480 is a good vaslue at around 200 dollars. The cuda 300 is a total rip off at 90 dollars.
Now maybe the 242 is for some reason AWSOME. Well maybe. I would not hold my breath thinking they were going to work or that any of the cudas are worth anything at all. My vote don't buy a CUDA. If you do I have a cuda for sale, cheep. Ron
No on second thought I could not sell you my cuda. I don't want to hose someone like I got hosed. Ron

Are there any good FF for $150 or less? I would not mind mounting one to my tube.

[cool][#0000ff]I have used Cudas for several years, and had largely found them to be "OKAY" for the money. They had good bottom definition and temperature readings, but produced a lot of false signals for fish. Depending upon what you are fishing for, and at what depth, that can be a problem.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have been basically happy with the Cuda 168EX that I have used the last two years. It has put me on a lot of fish and performed fairly well. I recently upgraded to the Humminbird 565, on a special deal, and I am glad I did. It has been well worth the money.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I still have the Cuda 168EX but will no longer be using it. If you want to buy it for $50, I will help you install it on your tube. It is all set up but you need to add a couple of things on your tube to attach the transducer.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Shoot me a PM if you are interested and we can go from there.[/#0000ff]

I bought a Cuda 242 at Gander Mountain for one of my spare tubes.
idahoron, just as well have been describing the 242. There was screen clutter all over the place.
Fortunately, Gander Mountain let me return it and upgrade to an Eagle Fisheasy 300c .
WOW! What a difference!!!
There are a ton of finders out there and I'd bet someone, somewhere, think mine is junk also.
Just be sure to do your research ,and if you buy a new unit, be sure to get it at a place that will let you return it if it don't work right.

i bought the cuda 300 despite the bad review. it can only be a step up from a fishnbuddy. i am trying to get out and see how i like it. if it doesnt perform how i like i will return it and try your 168EX.

I have a Cuda 300 as well and I haven't had it out too much. Sometimes it shows the bottom well, others it just shows broken garbage on the screen. Sometimes a ton of fish (which are false readings, otherwise I would be kicking them out of the water) and other it shows nothing. I think the temp is at least right. My main problem so far has been getting the transducer caught up in weeds. Our lakes are so full of weeds here that I can't go anywhere. The weeds wrap around the transducer and then pull me in.
