I'm heading up to the uintas soon, planning to do some hiking and fishing. But I'm not really sure about the lakes I should hit. Are there any experts that wouldn't mind at least sharing a few hints? I know that uinta secrets are guarded like gold, but any help would be great. Maybe if there is an area with several good lakes in one spot. thanks

check out my report on the Utah fly fishing page:Grayling report.Just got back. No secrets to the Uintas just about every lake or stream has fish in it. The fish are eager to be caught except at the heavily fished lakes near the roads. Cutthroat,Brookies,Browns,Rainbows,Grayling are all over those mountains and a couple lakes still have Goldens. Their are all levels of hiking from level walks to steep hikes get a good map and take your pick. I have a series of books the fish and game put out on the Uintas, but I don't know if you can still buy them. Have fun up there.

One of my favorite places to go up there is up to twin lakes, as well as clyde lake. It is quite the hike, so I would stay the night probably. It is beautiful country up there. To get there you start on the crystal lake trailhead. I am jealous your going up there. Wish I could go, Have fun!

As mentioned, Clyde Lake is a good one for lots of brookies. They are on the smaller size, but the quantity makes up for it. I like to use a fly and bubble with a renegade or a mosquito pattern. But at Clyde virtually anything works. At worst you can catch all you want with a night crawler. The hike is not that bad if you know the trail that goes past Cliff and Watson Lakes (about 1 1/2 miles). This is a great lake to take beginners to. Great views just before you get to the lake. There are numerous other lakes in the vicinity, like the Twin Lakes, and the Three Divide Lakes.
