My family and 4 other families rented a houseboat and hit Lake Powell 7/20-26. I just finally got some of my pictures downloaded so this is kind of a late report (I took off for alaska the very next day). I wasn't going to even post, but we took a really cool picture that I thought I would share. We were just sightseeing one day and came upon this. Crazy hu. It was coming down to water and we got really close to it.
I had high hopes of getting up early and trying my luck for the stripers, but with 25 people to entertain I didn't get to fish as much as I wanted. We camped in Rock Creek and we did see some boils, but by the time we got over to them they were gone. One boil that we did see we threw out to and they were all SMB. I have never heard of them working together on shad before. We had success for stripers trolling with lures that looked like shad or basically any minnow. We caught about 10 one morning between 4 of us this way. I forgot to take my camera and my wife took this of my cleaning one off the back of the boat. They were all pretty uniform in size (about 3-4 lbs) I got in real trouble from everyone for doing this so I had to go across the bay to what I called fillet rock after that.
Here are some stripers from trolling.
One guy brought some salmon for fish night and we threw the stripers in some dixie batter and it was the hit of the night. It even beat out mahi mahi and the salmon.
Of course we fished off the back of the boat at night with some anchovies and caught a ton of catfish. My son caught a pretty big cat that was probably 6 or 8 lbs, but broke off as we were getting him in the boat.
Anyway always a great time at lake powell. BTW I just saw that some guy caught a 31 lb stiper at powell. You all probably know, but you can get a ton of great info from http://www.wayneswords.com/ FISH ON!!!![fishin]
