Was ask to go to the Berry to help catch some crawfish for a cook out to be on Monday...

So myself and Brent headed up at 7:00 sunday night, it was dark by the time we got there and we had ten traps to bait and set out...

By ten or so all was in the water and we was headed for Mike's place one of the cabins you see on the way in to Soldier creek launch...

We was pulling our traps by 6:00 and moved them to other spots, we was told that they needed 1,000 of the bugs so we would check the traps (all ten) about every two hours and fish in between times...

Others came to help some had boats and would check the traps at times as well...We found some trout in 30' to 50' of water and got over 15 by drop shoting gulp minnows when not pulling traps...

We filled the live wells (both) on the boat and so did the other boat as well...By 5:30 we pulled all traps and headed up to the cooking place...

We filled two of the big white coolers I think they hold 126 quarts till the dads was climming out the top, we guessed we had over 3,000 in the two coolers...

The trout well the biggest was a cut at 21" and we got 2 cokes and around 6 rainbows the rest was cuts...

It was a fun but tiring day...

How on earth do you cook that many? If I catch 3 gals worth I have my hands full

Sounds tasty.

I wouldn't mind trying that some day.

What a feast that must have been. On Bourbon street in New Orleans that many mud bugs would have cost you $2,000.00 but who is counting? Nice work, but now what will the fish have to eat?

How to cook 3 K mudbugs...we had 4 humongous old army surplus pots...you know the kind I'm talking about...you can bathe in them... added corn, potatoes and sausage first with crab boil and other seasonings...then right at the last 3 minutes added the critters.

Not to worry about what will the fishies eat???? We turned a slew loose cause we couldn't fit them in the coolers...we only fished for them in one small cove and figured we only took out 1 in every thousand bugs in that part of the lake so the bottom of the lake marches on...

WOW, 3000! Which part of the lake were you at? I probably should avoid the same spot this weekend.

We didn't put a dent in them, you can see them all around the boat docks any time...

There is no way to put a dent in them there are most likely a billion in there for the size of that lake..What is really odd here, is to here you fishing for Trout or even at the Berry...?
