I have fished Willard about five times this year and it is kicking my butt. I started fishing about 4 and trolled along the west dike toward the light pole. Saw lots of fish on the finder but not strikes.

I saw what I thought was going to be a nice boil. I would see a bunch of small fish starting to gather in a ball on the surface then one wiper would come hit it and it was gone. This happened about six times.

After we reached the light pole we turned around a trolled back all the way through the north dike. Saw hundreds of fish on the finder but no hits all night. Tried different lures, speeds, and depths but could not get a bite. The wind picked up so we were off the water at 8. Another frustrating day at Willard.[pirate]

Persitence pays off. I'm still persisting but haven't caught one yet. I got a few good tips from a good bft-er. I still gotta try it out. Good luck!

[font "Georgia"][#000000]Thanks for the report! [Wink] I have fished willard for many years. This time of year the wiper have feed on shad and are full, if you catch them you will see shad in there gutt, the fishing will pick up in about 3-4 weeks when the shad run low, hang in there it will pick up for you, also trolling speed and how much line is out, the depth of the lure, and color all take a play in wiper and walleye, I would be glad to help! Willard had been tough this year. Went out 4X and caught 1 wiper each time. Last saturday trolled for 4 hours and caught 1 wiper then we finally saw a boil at 7:45 P.M. about 1/2 mile out Northwest of the south marina. Caught and released 25 fish before it got too dark. I think it is a late year and should pick up. Shad were about 3" long. We were using black and silver 3" storm chug bugs (topwater popper) Bass Man
