[Smile]Took my grandson to Rockport this morning. We fished from 6:00 to about 10:00 just off the dam in about 10 feet of water. We caught about 30 smallmouth and 3 perch. The smallmouth ranged from 5" to 12" and the perch were about 9." After that I let him race the boat up and down the lake a couple of times before loading up and heading home.

sounds like fun, I've been hearing lots of good things about rockport lately, should probably go there one of these days.

I took a CAST for kids group out 2 weeks ago and they caught some very nice bows (17") trolling 25' down using pop gear and a red spinner. Then we went to the inlet and fished by the buoys and caught some nice perch.I am going back for some fish for myself the first opportunity I get.

How long have smallies been in Rockport? Were they planted by DWR? Why are they just barely showing up in good numbers?

They have been there in good numbers for a long time. But, like all self sustaining populations there are ups and downs. It seems like either this is an up cycle or just an up cycle in the number of post about this particular lake.
