[#002850]For the past three years now, mack fishing at Bear Lake has seemed to me to be on a steady decline. Either that, or I have simply lost the touch required to catch 2, 3, or more nice macks a day. As such, for the last three years, I have become almost embarrassed to organize the BFT Salsa Boyz get-together where the participants do so poorly.
For those of you who are not too familiar with the Salsa Boyz event, here are some links to give you an idea of what the gig is:

Unlike many guys who "just like getting out" or "getting skunked is just a part of fishing", my disappointment meter goes way up when my catch rate goes way down. I gotta be catching what I came to catch.
As such, I am strongly considering moving this year's annual Salsa Boyz party from Bear Lake in mid-November to Strawberry in early October.
I would like to get some of your opinions about whether or not a change for this year would be a good idea or a bad idea.
I, personally, am leaning heavily towards having this year's Salsa Boyz party at the Berry rather than Bear Lake ... at least just to try for one year.
So use the voting buttons at the top of this post and share your thoughts.
... Thanks ...

[#008000]Great idea Coot ![/#008000]

[#008000]I went to the first one and everyone in our boat caught some fish. They were mostly cutts though - not macs. I would have attended the others, but BL is kind of a distance for me and like you, I also think the mac fishing has been better in years past. [/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]I would attend at Strawberry because it is closer, and as you mentioned, the potential catch rate could be higher for most folks that attended. [/#008000]

Coot,
Not sure if you remember our conversation, but if the Salsa Boyz event was in mid Oct (or even early Oct) on Bear Lake the fishing for macs would be a WHOLE lot better. In mid Nov the fish are just finishing the spawn and have not really started eating again. In early Oct. they are agressive and you can do very well both jigging and trolling. If you might think about moving the Salsa Boyz even later, say very late Nov./early December the whitefish run is "on" and everyone should be able to hook up with several whitefish, not to mention the cutthroat and lake trout fishing are good too. I've done shows with Adam Eakle (Channel 2) for whitefish and we've literally killed them. The first week of December you are guaranteed to catch fish (and that is a big promise for a water like Bear Lake). The water will be slightly higher this fall than the last 4-5 years and the whitefish fishing should be great. Also, FYI, there are a couple decent year classes of lakers coming on that are in the 3-5 lb range right now on Bear Lake.

Coot my friend, we will be there no matter where you have it. But remember that the Hunting seasons are in october and a lot of folks will be gone during that time, just a thought.

Pros and Cons both ways Coot. I like Bear lake becasue I have a place to stay at the end of the day and the night before.
The drive is sixes to me. Two hours each way. chance for a bigger fish at BL, More Fish at the berry.
You would have folks strung from hell to breakfast at the berry. this would make it tough come grub time. doesnt matter to me.
I do Like Scotts idea of having it or even like you say, Trying it for one year in early October at BL. Those of us that fish BL that time of year have done really well in Early October up there.

[#000000]O.K. I voted, and it was not for heath care eather LOL [

[#000000]I am for the Berry it is closer for most folks and the October weather is better than November, even if the fish are a tad smaller it is fun to catch fish, it can be disappointing to many if they travel a long way to BL and catch nothing, besides Macs can be tricky to catch were as trout gives most all a good chance of landing some in their boat. As for the hunting season many hunt local in the area of the berry and surrounding areas and taking some time off would be shorter time off than the long travel to BL. [/#000000]
[#000000]As a majority I think most fishermen live closer to the berry than BL. [/#000000]
[#000000]We could have a place and time were to meet at the berry so this way we could fish in different areas depending on location of choice. O-Well my 2 cents worth.[/#000000]
[#000000]Excellent idea Coot. Count me in.[fishin]Trout on.[/#000000]

I can't honestly give a vote. I fished with you guys a couple years ago and had fun. I only caught one cutt and it was a beauty...I think. I mostly remember the blue water, the good friends and the good food. Not very often do I eat good food while fishing!
I am elk and deer hunting in October, as much as I hate to say it...I need to fill my freezer this year and fishing is on the back burner.

I would love to come and would be much more likely if it was at Strawberry- I know I wouldn't get up to BearLake.
