Monday, 08/17/09- Hit the water early (5:30am). Cruised to Gov't Wash, with my friend Sean and his son John. Hoping to see some striper boils today.

Enjoyed an awesome sunrise with about ten other boats. Found no fish boiling, scratched two small stripers up with swimbaits off a point. Went to jigging, nothing. Should have brought some bait. [crazy] Somebody must be catching a lot of fish on Lake Mead today but it was not us. At about 8:30am Sean's son wanted to go swimming so we headed for the clear waters of Swallow Bay.

BAYSPORT sits at rest in a nice cove in Swallow Bay.

After a nice swim we use the electric motor to move along the coves. Spent the remainder of the morning catching and releasing several small bass. What a great day on the water!

I too launched about 0430 , we had information to head up to the cliffs at the mouth of the dam. Was told the stripers push the shad into the walls and the boils last longer. I caught a 4lb right off the bat with anchovie in about 80ft. Then the dead zone after a couple of hours nothing. We headed to 33 hole area. We caught about 3. Then we saw a boil but it was the ducks attacking the shad we tried hard no stripers. We then drifted around the buoy caught 1 more on chovies. Decided to head in about 545pm we didn't go 20 feet and a boil occurred right under us. We grabbed our put away poles and were able to catch 3. I looked up and there were about 6 boats all around us. All stripers were 2 to 3 lbs really healthy. One complaint though, I saw five or six fishing boats in the same general area fishing and water skiers were constantly passing us going between us. The idiot Jet ski guys tormented us for awhile as well. It all about courtesy. THe huge lake and they all had to play right next to all the fisherman. Weather was great warm but bearable. Successful day.

Typical August afternoon fishing. The "Jet" crowd launches off the shore at Gov't Wash because it is easy and closest to town. Skiers seek the shelter of the back coves in the afternoon where the water is likely calm. If I had a jet I would go farther upriver where the water is clear and the shore has sand on it. Nothing worst than working a boil and a jet runs over it! [mad] Sunrise fishing usually avoids the jets until after about 9:00am. Never fear, cooler weather is just around the corner which will reduce their numbers and give fisherman the peace they look for. Sounds like you all enjoyed a good time on the water. Sorry I'm rambling.........
