Decided to bankfish way up a lake Lanier feeder river to get a bass or stripe. 1st cast, wham, good striper crushes it and I did a BassMaster Classic hookset and ripped it right out of its mouth (50 lb braid and very stiff rod). Made a few more casts with no takers and then about the 5th cast ,wham, another striper pounds it, peeling drag as it runs downstream... I fought it for what seemed like a long time but was probably only about 30 seconds and then slack in line. Sad I reeled my line in and the King Kong bait I was using was missing the lower half... There is a joint in the middle made out of formed plastic and the lower half just popped off...

Alright, now my blood pressure is really getting up there now, as I tend to get uptight when I miss more than one good fish emoBang , as I missed a really nice fish and then another really nice fish broke my expensive lure right in half. Alright, no need to give up yet, so I tied on a Storm swimbait with greenish/blue back and made a couple more casts with no hits in that hole. I then started walking back towards my truck but decided to try a couple other smaller holes on the way back to the road. Tried that for about 15 minutes with no hits, but refusing to get skunked, I decided to go back down to the best hole and try it a few more casts now that the fish might have settled down (except the one that is swimming around with half my KingKong in its mouth... emoAngry ).

I am VERY GLAD I did, as first cast back into the rapids just as they meet the deep hole, wham, another striper hits and this time I didn't loose it (and my lure didn't break in half), and got it up to the bank. As I was trying to get my camera it flopped around and quick released itself so no pictures of it, but it was a decent fish at about 12-15 lbs. Was feeling a little better now because even though I didn't get a photo I landed a fish, so just to see I made a couple more cast and hooked up on what I thought was a small striper. It ran downstream and fought very well for its size, but it was not a stripe but a nice spotted bass.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/DirkDial/100_0611.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/DirkDial/100_0612.jpg

I am going to call the company that makes KingKong lures and see if they will replace the lure as I have only had it about a week. All my action came casting up into the whitewater and just trying to keep the slack out as the current brought it downstream (I was downstream of the rapids casting upstream, as that seems to work better for me up in small water).

Great way to spend about 45 minutes between thunderstorms...
