My boat sits in the driveway. Ignored, perhaps even forlourn if boats, especially ones given so much love and attention can feel emotion. It is hard to see her sitting there not being used but the stream fishing is so fantastic I feel no urge to fish the lakes. Yuba, flaming gorge and Powell becon me, but I shrug off their calls. It is the time for the rivers and streams.

Yesterday I spent 4 hours on Diamond, the day before Thistle. To say the fishing was good is a great understatement. The brown trout continue to gorge themselves on grasshoppers and I am there to accomadate them.

Yesterday I caught 8 trout and missed that many or more. The largest was over 17" and the majority, 13 to 15". I used my 3 weight stick with a small letort hopper. The three weight doesn't take kindly to heavy flies or weight on the leader. Thus the paradox, how to sink a floating flie to probe the depths of the scattered holes? Sinking dope helped, but a short sink tip with a clipped leader might have been even better.

I'm leaving for Antimony to fish the sevier. Reports say it is high and muddy with irrigation water, but I'm going anyway. The boat will be behind the truck as insurance. I will post a report when I return the first of the week.

nice browns PEZ, man you have been fishing rivers more that I have the past few days. I love that drive to pursue the streams you have, I can hear it in you words. It is similar to the drive I had this spring fishing for walleye but with opposite bodies of water, I was fixated on lake fishing. Right now I would go do either but am leaning towards a river today after your motivating stories. Got next week off!!! all week so I would surly like to fish somewhere that we had planned on earlier this summer. Call me when you get back from the sevier and we could go from their. GOOD LUCK

[#500000]The steelhead boys use a short length of leadcore line attached to the fly line, tied on with mono, with a nail knot.......Don't know if this will work with that light rod?........It might be worth a shot............WW.[/#500000]

I find a large tungsted beadhead will sink that floating line on a 3 wt just fine. My favorite for those tributaries of Soldier Creek is a size 10 tungsted bh prince nymph. Works year round. Easy enough to switch from the hopper when you know the big one in that hole just isn't rising. I use 4x -5x flourocarbon leader and if using a foam hopper don't bother with tippet. This works great for those faster waters you mentioned. Glad to see someone else using a rod not designed for stealhead when most of the year only an occasional trout will top 20 inches. I see your boat out in front of your house all the time (assuming there's only one boat with Pezvela written on it). My wife works over there at the SF clinic, so I drive past there often.
