Hey guys,

I am headed up to the berry on saturday afternoon to fish for a little while. We will be fishing from a boat, and I don't have much experience that way. From the posts I always read, vertical jigging or drifting seems to be hot, with jigs tipped with chub.

Any tips on location? Or where to get some chub for bait? We will be launching at the strawberry marina.

Thanks BFT'ers

Verticle jig if you have a fish finder, use a white or white/pepper tube jig tipped with a half a chub minnow, I usually pick them up at sportsmans but I heard there's a place in heber that carries them. Once you find the fish just cast out twenty feet or so and jig it back to the boat, at least that's what I do up there.
I catch most of my fish trolling though, anything gold seems to be liked up there like a hammered spoon or a jakes lure, rapalas in gold work too.
My favorite spot is right there in Strawberry bay, just head back into the bay from the marina and start in 20-40 feet of water looking for the cutts. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

The Silver Eagle (located on Highway 40, just as one leave's Heber City headed towards Strawberry) carries chubs. You may want to call them ahead of time to make sure that they have a good supply, or you may be at the mercy of buying them (if they have them) at The Strawberry Marina -- at a higher rate. If you have a cell phone that will work up there send me a PM and you can call me (I will be fishing there Saturday) and I will let you know how we are going. We will be vertically jigging, unless the wind is blowing too hard and then we will be drift trolling.

If you want to go the really cheap way spend like 30 min in the narrows againt the shore with the smallest hook possible (i used a little fly with a split shot to make it sink) and catch yourself some chubs. I got like 15 of them last time I was there. They are all over the place and really easy to catch right next to the boat. Just make sure to kill them before you use them..

Thank you so much for your help guys.

Unfortunately due to a family emergency it looks like my fishing trip has been delayed until next week.

Your advice will still be implemented, however, and I greatly appreciate it. You are the best.

I take a up a few worms and catch the bigger chubs off the docks. Then I cut chub strips from the fillets. Works good!
