Haven't fish it recently in the winter but we were down there a few years ago. The fishing is so so got move around allot find the fish having a fish finder helps out allot. Because of the warm weather down south the lake rarely freezes over but the nice thing is you dont have to deal with the crowds you pretty much have the lake to your self.

I have always wanted to get a share in a house boat, but didn't know if you could use them during the off season.

The fishing is great when you find the fish...
How or where you fish depends on what you are fishing for...You can find the stripers up Hite way or up the San Juan where the river comes in or any other river...
They may be deep as 50' to 100' , a great fish finder is a musted...
Find the shad and you find the fish, bass both LM and SM can be found with the shad as well but on some days may be only 10' and deeper...
I like to boat camp to save on long runs and once you find the fish to stay with them...

I think striper fishing really slows down in the winter. You can fish late fall which is usually awesome. For more info, hit www.wayneswords.com. It's a great site devoted to fishing Lake Powell.
Also, when it comes to Stripers, don't catch and release. Catch and eat. From WaynesWords:
"Please keep all striped bass caught so the population can stay in balance with available forage.
WHY?
Striped bass are ocean fish that can live in freshwater. Now that this population is landlocked in Lake Powell they are reproducing at an unprecedented rate due to the unique water chemistry of Lake Powell which allows eggs that settle on the substate to hatch instead of smothering as they would in most nutrient-rich (eutrophic) lakes."

Fishing for Stripped Bass in cold weather turns on the big fish.
