Kind of wish the Idaho fishing forum had a Confidential section like utah. Might post more, but in this case just had to post on my trip, but will not name where because I promised my fishing buddies. There are places that can't stand too much pressure, thus the Confidential section. Get's rid of the lurkers, etc.
Left home, had to come back because I forgot hooks and wt.s I had just bought. Left again and got on the water about noon. Only one other tuber there. Water down. Weed line was showing on top about 25-30 yds. out. Fished the N. side between the weed line and shore. Caught a bunch of dinks + some big guys. Caught a biggy that measured 17" Caught about 3 more 13-15". Nothing on the outside of the weed line. Decided to cross over to the S. side, 2/3 across found surface weeds with moderated depth and tossed my reaper on the edge so it would drop to the bottom close to the weeds. Caught several good size bass, about 14-15. Inside edge not as productive. While fishing there the other guy in his tube got close enough for “fish talk”. He was very talkative and, would you believe he was from Ogden.
He was complaining about catching a lot of small fish. Suggested he wacky hook a big sinko/worm and try. He left and tried my wacky worm method and immediately started getting big fish. Next time I need to follow my own advice and wacky hook a sinko, He called it a day and went back to his truck. Fished awhile caught a few more and decided I had had a good day and time to quit, nothing much on S. weed line. Finned back to my launch point and when I got kind of close, had a hit and it broke my line immediately. [shocked] Must have been a biggie. That was the end, quit at about 5pm. My best guess from memory, caught a zillon dinks, about 2 at 12", about 8 at 13-15" and the 17" guy. Great day for Sparky and I for fishing about 5 hrs. .
When I got back he pulled up along side of me to yak. His engine died and wouldn’t crank!!!!! [mad] The short of it is we jumped started his truck, he headed out, I found him on the side of the road, jump started it again, found him on the side of the road by a farm house, ended up driving him to his cabin about 50 mi. away in the opposite direction of my home, so he could take his other car and “fix” the problem”. Lucky I chose to follow him for a while. Went home tired and hungry. [frown] Got home about 9pm.
P.S. Thanks again gstott. !!! [Smile]

awful nice of you to go out of your way for that guy he could of been in a mess that far from home. wish you had a pic of the big one, but i guesse that would give away the secret pond.ds

Bump. Hey, --------------------. no comments after 68 posts? [Smile]

Leaky from what i have seen this site doesnt have a huge bass following. The onces that are, are die hard and my guesse is havnt had the chance to read it.

Sorry, was trying to find how to delete my last post and couldn't find it, so please disregard, ok?

[inline 17] Against my better judgment I'll post a pic, Yeah I kept him and had him for supper. I sincerely hope I don't start a bunch of negative responses from the bass huggers. If I do, I'll try to avoid it in the future.

no guss from me whats the point of fishing if you cant keep one now and then. just as long as its now and then not all of them Smile great looking fish. not going to lye i was hoping for one of you holding him up so i could see the background and find this lake Smile

Hey you're welcome. I'm glad you're getting into the big guys there. I caught another 18" and a few 17" fish last time I was there. I even got a 17" bass on a shallow crank and another on my fly rod. Very fun. I've been doing well with texas rigged baby brush hogs and sometimes a 3 1/2" swim bait has been killer too. Have you had a chance to try that smallmouth place I told you about yet?

Not yet. How about you, any recent trips and encouraging reports? Kind of embarrassed about not trying yet, but thanks for the lead Tooooooooo much fun at the "other" place. Have to admit that moving water smallies would be much better. [Smile] Have to make the commitment to try a new place!!!! [frown] I'm a guy that is hooked on what has worked in the past and am reluctant to try something new even when some kind person offers new info.. Bad thinking!!! Figure I ain't got that many years so000000000 do what works now, Still, probably bad thinking -------------! [frown]

Sounds like you had a great day. I hope to get to that secret lake soon. I would tell you where I think it is but that would be pointless. You gave several clues that make me think I know where it is. Congrats on the big bass.

Don't take the lack of responses personally. There are a ton of lurkers on here right now and the number of people contibuting meaningful fishing conversation and reports is quite low right now. I keep hoping those 100 or so regular lurkers will decide to join in the discussions and make the board more useful for everyone. As you know its a free world and we can only hope that people will give as much as they take.

Hey leaky, I always like your reports. I usually don't contribute because I don't get to do much bass fishing anymore, so I'm kind of out of the loop. but thanks for the report and great fish!

I had a really good day on The Logan fly fishing last week. I posted a report of it in the Utah fly fishing section. I know how you feel about the usual. I keep meaning to try a few other places in the area, but your "other place" is my other place as well and gets most of my attention. But, like I said, I've been trying some new tactics there and have been rewarded. Here are some pics of some of the fish I've caught there recently. I also had some fun south of the border with a toothy critter.

Here are some pics of bass (first two) I caught recently from a secret pond in Utah. J/K, it used to be more of a secret but since they made it a community fishery its not much of secret anymore. Fortunately big bass like these are smart so they don't get caught very often. I can't wait until the new regs make it catch and release on bass so that these fish and their children will be around for a long, long time.

On my way back to Idaho from Utah last weekend I decided to take a little detour through the Preston area to see if these fabled bass lakes had any truth to them. I had some pleasant surprises but I don't think I've found "the one" yet. I've crossed four lakes of the list and look forward to exploring the rest of them.[fishon]
Seems you had a good day.

Just curious, did Sparky always swim around your tube while you were fishing or you left her on the bank and play loosely?

I know what you mean about keeping a secret spot secret. My wonderful catfishing spot made it in the outdoor section of the Idaho Statesman. Guess what... not a great spot anymore. Seems like anymore you have to hike miles into the sticks just to avoid bumping elbows with anyone. Glad to hear that there are still great places out there.

Thats cool if you want to keep a bass to eat, just don't be complaining anymore about why you only catch little bass at some reservoirs in Idaho. [fishin]

hello leaky33, nice bass and you have fished enough in your lifetime and probably let many of them go and deserve to take some home every now and then. I hope it made a great meal and I hope to someday see you on the water with the sparkinator. Good luck on the fishing and see you on the water.............

Nice fish. Gotta love when they'll hit topwater. This morning was nice and overcast, so I decided to break out my 6wt and do a little popper fishing. I guess they liked my little pencil popper. The Preston area lakes are a lot of fun. Not really trophy destinations, but some very fun little places to fish. I just wish they hadn't drained two of the ones that didn't allow motor boats.

Anything having to do with Bush, I reject out right as Doubtful. [mad] In lieu of the political comment, a promise is a promise. My lips are sealed. However, how much ya got to contribute to the "Leaky" retirement fund?[laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh]
