I am going to Yuba resevoir this weekend and need some tips on fishing. I have never fished there before but am going to be shore fishing. i will be taking spin tackle and fly rod. If any one has any tips they would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yuba has been tough. There are millions of carp though. They are fun to catch- use a worm or use your fly rod- that should be a blast.

[cool][#0000ff]As you have been advised, Yuba is not the angler-friendly lake of old. Still lots of fish, but not as many of the kinds we prefer to catch. The carp have just about taken over the lake.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]But, if you can find them, there should be some decent perch fishing from shore. In years past they have been very reachable at this time of year. If I were planning a trip...which I will be soon...I would focus on fishing from the main State Park...the Oasis area. If you have a pass, you can park inside the park. If not, you can park off the road up near the dam and walk down to the water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good fishing potential along the rocky shoreline to the east of the docks. Also good all the way between the ramp and the dam. Just walk the bank, pitching small jigs tipped with worms until you find the fish. You can also stillfish with worms or minnows. But, the carp will drive you nuts. If you just wanna play with the carp, fish a piece of worm a few feet under a bobber close to shore, or just fling it out and hang on. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you are after pike, throw rapalas, big plastics or spinners & spoons parallel to the bank. It's a good idea to use wire leaders for these guys. There have been a lot of pike taken in that area by shore anglers.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There can be some decent fishing, using the same tactics, up at the Painted Rocks area. But, the water levels have been falling fast and I do not know what the current conditions are up there. Might be too shallow.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good luck.[/#0000ff]
