I had that happen at a farm drainage ditch in Arizona. I caught an 8 inch channel cat and an 'ol flathead catfish about only 15 inches long attacked it and would not let go. He finally let go when I got it up to the bank. [shocked]
Some of Arizona's canals and drainage ditches, near the Colorado River, are so full of food for fish to eat you would never find a hungry catfish.
