Spent a couple of days in the last week or so on Twin Lakes. Caught some nice Crappies and some smallish Blue Gills.
No trout or bass. Flies probably weren't deep enough.

Can anyone steer me to some other panfish-bass or catfish waters here in southeast Idaho. It kind of annoys me to pay an extra $5 to fish for fish that were stocked by Fish and Game.
I live near Pocatello.

can you still acess the east side of the lake without paying i know last year we parked there and didnt pay and no one ever said anything to us. I am with you though if they want to make this a family fishing water. maybe they should make it a public fishery rather than a private pond stocked by fish and game money...

This topic has gone the rounds for I dont know how long, I think many would agree with ya but i dont think its gonna happen, no sense beating ourselves up over it any more.

So besides that, im curious as to what the water level is on twin, are the boat ramps still useable or is it below the cement like it has been in past years.

Also, has anyone beento glendale lately and hows the fishing there, was thinking about droping a line early next week.

Thanks everyone for the very helpful replies.

I am interested in the east side thing. I think I might try that.

The water level is down quite a ways. I think that it is past the concrete on the boat ramps. There are still ski boat out though.

Do you have any suggestions on where to fish for catfish on Alexander? I have never fished there before.
I have a float tube or pontoon boat.

I was up in Soda on Sunday, and Alexander is pretty much a river channel now. Don't know it it's worth fishing, though maybe it could be good as they're concentrated now.

Are the catfish able to move out of the res and up the river?

Any one fished the river above Alexander? Any good places public accesses?

Went to Alexander earlier this week. Saw a lot of carp while fishing at the dam and only one little bite. Then we went to the bridge behind the hospital and the little white bugs were there in the millions, so we opted not to fish.

The guy at the meat market counter when we went to get the chicken livers said that they caught a bunch of 3lbs cats there at the bridge.

Went to scout out Glendale the other day and it's down, but not as near as far as I've seen it before. Don't know about the fishing on there. I would try down by the damn, if I went to Glendale.

That is the only place i fish is above the res. i go below the hospital there is a bridge great to float up and down on a tube...

I was told they are doing work on the bridge of Alexander and they where going to drain it so maybe even below the res. would be a good idea.....

I have parked on the road below twin lakes and walked in they cant do anything to you if you do that.

I'm not to sure of that one!!!

They (twin lakes canel comp) have stoped me and asked to see my prove of my pay for either a camp site or day use a couple of times... If you see a older guy on a little six wheeler or four wheeler with a flag buzzing around that be the host.......You have to pay rather on foot or not.... I to HATE this rule/law and this is why i dont go to twin anymore but a rule/law is just that......good luck...

were probly better off writing the f&g rather than posting it on here. i have never had any problems when i walk in. i dont think they can do anything. i have never had problems anyway. that would be a good question for a f&g officer.

Fish and Game has heard it all from everyone but it still doesnt hurt to say anything. And your probably just lucky since the water is privately owned and so is the property around it. Id be careful as one of these days it will catch up with you. Its not worth not paying the 5 a day when it will cost you more in tickets than that.

The law is a plain and simple law called TRESPASSING. Nothing more nothing less. I dont like to pay the 5 a day myself, but, if F&G had some other fisheries for pan fish that developed like twin, and as consistent, then im sure fewer people would fish it. But, then the canal company would win as they dont want anyone on the resevoir anyhow.

Good luck!!

i am not sure why you dont think the canal companie doesnt want ppl on the water. they are leasing the grounds to the companie running the camp sites. they are making money off of it. what they do want is more water... as for it being trespassing i believe the water is public as the road is also. just like any canal road its owned by twin lake canal company but can be used by the public. what you are paying for is the facilities (bathrooms, campsites, tables, docks, parking, boat ramp.) I am going to check on this but i am fairly sure you are able to walk in.

I read some place that they gave up on the dam up the narrows and have started a plan to tube the water from bear lake??? anyone else read up or hear anything about this?????? I sure hope they done gave up on the whole narrows dam deal...... Anywho ill be asking around Preston and mink creek where im from and see what i can find out....

Sorry....... when i read your "they wanting water" reply thats what made me think of this, sorry for changing the convo.....

i heard that there was a proposed damn up one of the canyons around the bear lake area were they were wanting to pump water into the damn at night when electric costs are down and run the water down threw a powerplant then back into the lake. but from what i have heard they was strong oposition to that also. they were worried about it dirting up the lake. I am also not sure if it is utah or idaho proposing this.

wyoming, idaho and utah get x amount of watershares from the bear river and idaho isnt using the full amount they are allowed and if utah can get a damn in they can take these water shares from idaho. thats why they were pushing for the damn. i also heard they were talking about a damn right below cutler.

as for the road being private its a also a threw road and you can drive threw without any hassel.
[signature]
Yep you are right the road is a county road, but the water is privately owned by the canal company. They own all the water shares on it and can do as they need on it. The property is the same way, all private access and is posted no tresspassing without paying the fee. They dont have to provide a thing for that fee, its the fee to just use their property.

The damn was in Onieda Narrows and was defeated hands down by so many environmental issues, including issues from Fish and Game. The canal company is looking at the tube issue but not sure they can get this one across either. It wasnt the state at all neither Idaho nor Utah, it was private Twin Lakes Canal Company. Give them a call out of Preston and ill be willing to bet that your told not to walk in or ur tresspassing. Doesnt apply in winter they dont collect the fees only during summer from about memorial day to just after labor day. Many Many issues on property, water rights they dont have etc.

Just because you can drive a road through the property doesnt mean u can walk into any area, especially since it is posted all along the road from top to bottom, east to west.

Good luck!!

like i said i will contact them and find out. all i was saying is i have done this before. i will let you know what i find out.

As for the dam i think they still want to do this, i know its still on there website. I dont think it was ever put down by environmental issues they had a county vote and it was voted down. They had a couple meeting in preston and they brought up the enviromental issues as well as the recreation issues. but that doesnt mean that congress can still allow this. I do think there money has dried up for the moment. They (weather it was the state or the canal company was still surveying ppl up the narrows as early as last fall. I never said that the state was pushing I was saying that if they dont get these shares put somewere that utah may snatch them up.

All of these issues are reasons i dont go to twin like i use to when i was a kid i was there 3 or 4 times a year now i am lucky to make it a couple times. its a real shame what they have done, and i have heard rumors that they plan to do the same to winder and condie.
