I* will be in Lewiston sunday and monday and want to try for summer steelhead. I have been told that large Blue Fox spinners, and Norman cranks are working well. I just watched several videos on "jig" fishing also. I need some advice on what to use and what area close to Lewiston i can fish. I will be shorebound too. Any and all help will be much appreciated!

my favorite thing is a black wooly bugger with a pink or red tail, but rather than using yarn for the tail use some marabou, i think they call it a royal wooly. also use a corkie i like the spnning corkies in the fall.
i dont know that area very well have fished it once but never drove was just a ride along. best advise is go were the ppl are.

Black Sheep Sporting Goods in downtown Lewiston is the go to place for up-to-date info. They will give you great advice. Mike

Thanks for the help guys. I spent 1/2 hour on the phone last night with a store right across the river from Lewiston The guy on the phone spilled the beans on what and where and is going to open his store for me(closed on sundays) to get some shrimp and other items. Sounds like a hell of a guy and operation. I should be on the water by 5 pm or so. Hopefully i can get atleast 1 steelie before i go back to Spokane.[cool]

Is this fish a steelhead?

The "word is" that the metalheads are coming in to the Clearwater just upstream from Lewistown. You got good advice from the previous posters. I'll be over during the catch and release dates. Check the Dam data for the count. The winter run should be epic!......if you can get there!

Sorry on the late reply. But I would say that Yes, that is a steelhead, and I might be able to give you a few pointers if it isn't too late. PM me if ur still interested.

Well, i did it! I got my limit of nice fish on monday morning. I got some bait and tackle from Waters Edge and fished the confluence area. Both 27" fish. I had a lot of people mad at me for catching a limit my first day on that river. Caught them drifting with shrimp.

Congratulations on your success!
It was nice to meet you after rhe flight (I hope it was a good ride.)

Yeah, that threw me for a curve when you walked up to me. Thanks for the comfortable ride(mostly). Last time i flew to Spokane, it was almost too much for me to handle. It felt like the plane was going to come apart. Nice to meet you and good driving. Do you do that flight often(SLC to Spokane)?
Not sure how routes work.
Also, how fast do we get going on that flight and what altitude do we reach?

That flight was at 35000 ft.
.74 mach (yes ,3/4 the speed of sound) at that altitude and air temp it was approx 520mph ground speed.
I wish I could control the bumps and then it would always be smooth[:/]
I fly all over the country 4 days a week but not on the same route all the time (I like it that way.) In fact, after Spokane we went up to Lewiston for our overnight.
If you ever notice me flying your flight don't hesitate to stick your head in the cockpit and say "hi" - I'll show you my "office."

Lol, if the crew knew i checked a handgun at the baggage line, TSA would be all over me if i did that.[pirate]
That is sweet, 520 mph? It feels like you are barely moving. Did you fly down to Lewiston or drive? I asked my bosses why they didn't just fly me there instead of Spokane. The confluence is an awesome sight especially when the big barges come up to the paper mill. I think my next flight will be to Boise on the 1st of November. Probably leave SLC around 1:30 pm or so. See if they will let me ride up front with you??[blush]
