Great article but it does not say if he is applying for the catch and release record, sounds like he would have it hands down.
Well I guess that isn't true because the catch and release record goes by inches and it is 23.5 inches but I bet it weights more[Wink].

You can see other pictures of this great bass up at Fish Tech, in the picture they have it is setting on the tape....

And just think that is the third bass over 8 lb this year, and all was released so others can have a go at them as well...

Correctamundo, as Fonzie would say. Caught by yours truly, Friday, Aug 28th, at high noon, in one of the smaller bays east of the marina, in 2' of water, 2' from shore, on a jighead & nightcrawler. Didn't even cast, didn't have to reel. Got blown into shoreline trees and was "dabbing" my 6' of line into a spot where I was yanking 9-10" perch, right off the back of the boat. All of a sudden, after about 4-5 perch, hookset something big. Looked like a huge carp at first. Kept the rod up with my right hand as the fish tried to go deep, untangled the net with my left & brought it aboard on the 3rd try. Flagged two drive-by bassin' brothers, Cal & Terry DeFreese from Springville, who helped measure, weigh & release the fish. Weighed in on a Berkely scale at 8-11 several times, tho more difficult getting the length. Originally we had it at 21 and 1/4", but now looking at the photo the lower lip is at least 3/4" to the left of zero, and the bottom tail fork is at 21 and 1/4". looks like 22" even to me.

Forgot to add....so disappointed now that I did not think of getting a girth reading. One pic shows it 8" top-to-bottom. Took several shots of scale reading, but the sun-glare monster got us. Hats off to the DeFreese Bros who worked hard to figure-8 the fish in the water for 5 minutes or so before it headed south. Would never had had these pics without them.

Nice work! Congrats on a truly incredible fish. I fish there almost weekly during the summer and I haven't got one that big yet. (but I'm not giving up anytime soon[Wink] )

Do you have any more pictures of her you'd care to share with us?

Congratulations! That is something to be proud of. I've been fishing Jordanelle for a long time and I've not caught a smallie over 6lbs. Being in the right place at the right time is what it's all about I guess, to think I spent all that money on lures [laugh].
You have caught and released one of the biggest smallmouth bass in Utah history. You have earned bragging rights!

Truly a giant, great catch!!!

congrats mike! must've been using bigger meat?

That fish could be in the top 100 biggest smallmouth bass ever...If you have other pictures please post them up...

Top 100? [inline puke1.gif] This fish could easily beat the state c&r record. Length can be exaggerated, there is no doubt that this bass is a fatty. Give the man some credit.

You need to learn how to read...

If getting a bass in the top largest 100 ever is not good enough for you, well you go catch one then...
