I live in Provo and I want to go get some crawdads. I've never been before and I'm overly excited. I've spent the last week building a few traps and doing some research but it seems that the only detailed info is for Strawberry. Are there crawdads in Deer Creek or Jordanelle? I'd prefer to not have to drive up to Strawberry. Any info would be awesome. Thanks!!!

Are there Crawdads in Deer Creek, yes, but the numbers and size are not like those at Strawberry or Scofield. Reason is that the slimers in Strawberry and Scofield are not able to consume a dad after it gets over a couple of inches, whereas a SMB, LMB, and Walleye will eat one up to 3-4 inches. Hence they grow bigger and survive longer in Strawberry/Scofield. If you want bait, Deer Creek is oaky. If you want to eat them, go to Strawberry/Scofield.

You can get some giants at Flaming Gorge, but the numbers are not very good up there, to many SMB and Macs.

Awesome info guys! Thanks a ton. I'm excited about the traps I built. I'm planning to set them, spend a few hours fishing, and by the time I leave hopefully I'll have a few in there. I have another question though, in Utah you are required to kill them before transport. If I'm not planning on cooking them at the lake, what's the best way to do this? Thanks again!

Remove their tail veins by taking the middle of the 5 fins on the tail, twisting it 90 degrees, and then pulling it out. They might wiggle a for a while after doing this, but they won't survive it.

IMHO the larger claws have the best meat in them, but If you only plan to eat the tails, then I'd cut them off and either sink the bodies out in the middle of the lake or leave them at the dumpster on your way out.

P.S. Put them on ice immediately. Their meat goes soggy in an hour or so if you don't.
