We had a great turnout at the CFF again today... was good to see you folks again emoSmile
TW and I haven't been in the water since the last CFF and neither of us had been out of the riverpark in a while... so, we just played it by ear all day. Started off running upstream looking for some schoolers, but didn't find them very active emoScratch TW hooked up with a couple of shorts, and we had a couple fish on (for a minute or so) that could have gone around 2 lbs each, but they came unbuttoned emoBang Hooked up with a keeper football spaat that was around 13" and probably weighed over 1.5 lbs... threw it back emoBang emoBang emoBang that was my bad... I really thought we would have culled it anyway (knowing that we have some really good fishermen in the CFF, and thinking it would take 3 good 15" plus fish to get a check)... I checked the blackberry, and they were only pumping 13K through the dam, water level looked like it was down 3 ft from the day before. We ran downstream to see if we could find something that would work... caught a few slicks again, and one keeper spot, and a short smallie... turned the spot loose.. we wanted bigger fish emoBang We ran into town and hit a place or 2 in 5-8 ft of water... TW lands a panfish that looked like a skillet emoEek That was a big ol bull bream. We worked our way back upstream, throwing crankbaits, jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, dropshots, spitwads, and anything we thought would hook a fish and it was nothing but shorts... until ... about an hour before weighin, I pitched my jig at the riprap on the edge of the current, let it sink a couple of seconds, pulled the line a little tight to keep the jig from wedging into the rocks, and it felt mushy, I set the hook ... felt like a rock emoEnforce ... then it broke loose, and the rock started moving quickly to the front of the boat emoEek The fish headed down and under the boat... had a big headshake... I was thinking catfish emoRolleyes Everytime I'd get it close to the surface, it ripped more drag and headed to the bottom again. On one of these roller coaster oscillations, TW said he saw it and it was a bass emoDance ... a couple of more runs and TW got the net under it like a pro. We boated a 4.23 lb brownfish emoTongue
Now I'm thinking (with less than an hour to go)... why did I throw those spaatzz back??? emoQuestion emoBang emoEnforce That would have been 2 lbs or so and would have put us in the money... I guess I learned a lesson... Don't cull until you catch a limit... lol ... oh well, it was a good day, with good company, and enjoyed talking to the cff'ers again and meet some new friends. Jason (jtablada) nursed this fish at the ramp to see it head on down for deeper water... it was swimming sideways at first... I really do appreciate what he did.. kudo's m8 emoToast
