I am from logan and I fly fish as much as my life lets me. I like get together with a bunch of fellas for a moab biking trip once a year. Their will be like 5 of us and I will be only really experianced fisherman their. Anyway, they want me to out fit them and go fishing in the moab area for one of the days we are up there. I have never fished in the area at all. I see online their are a few high mountain lakes around there but they look small and I really don't know if they hold many fish. we will be going the end of september. If their are any bike trails up to lakes or good fishing lakes that anyone knows of I would love any help I can get. Infact, if anyone has any ideas for fishing up there let me know. No need for carp ideas. Its not my game. I am more of a trout catch and release kinda guy. Thanks!!!

Last year my son and I fished one of the small lakes in the Lasals east of Moab and caught some nice planter rainbows. The lake was small but had plenty of fish. The lake we went to was off of the Geyser Pass road and you could get there on a mountain bike but it is a bit rocky. A good Jeep is the best way to get around. Ken's Lake south of Moab is also a place to fish. I haven't tried it but have seen plenty of people there.

Thanks, guys this is great information. We will definatly use this information. One more question, do you know if it would be possible to catch fish with a fly rod on these lakes, or do we need to bring the spining rods up their? Thanks for your help.[Wink]

The mountain lakes offer great fly fishing opportunities. As mentioned earlier, you will catch mostly planted rainbows. Hidden Lake is a beautiful gem. Warner and Ooah (not sure of the spelling) are also scenic and can offer very fast fishing at times.

Fishing at Ken's Lake is good and it is the closest to town, but it is not very pretty and it can be brutally hot.

Sorry I can't help you with your question but I thought the folks on our Utah Fly fishing board might be able to offer you some advise. Here is a link to that board:

Took my boys to Ken's Lake last October and caught plenty of chunky trout and small largemouth on spinners and Rapalas

Also if you stay on the road that goes to Kens lake it will take you to a river that has browns in it. I did pretty well using the same bluefox spinners that I always use, like said above for kens lake.
