So I opted to head down to the Knolls today to try for some cats there. I got there at about 6:30am and was on the water just before the sunrise. There was a bit of wind blowing southwest that kept the surface a bit agitated. I started working my way south toward the rocky point. Things started off really slow, even though I could see the white bass breaking the surface in little boils every so often. None of them wanted anything I threw at them. The cat line was also quiet the whole way to the point. Then I had my first hit and first lost fish... I also caught my only white for the day... A huge 2.5" fish that must have had to work hard to get the lure in his mount.... I changed out and ran both poles for cats and over the next hour or so I was able to land a really nice and plump 26" cat that demonstrated that my net is too small... Next up was a nice 22" cat. One more at 12" that got sent back to grow up some first. I had a number of other missed hookups but then the wind picked up a fair amount and I took the toon into the shallows there and waited for it to die down. I was not looking forward to the paddle back against the wind. After a while the wind did die down and so did the fishing so I started heading back. I was off the water by about noon. All in all a fine day even if the wind and the fish were not in top form.
No pics today...

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. Loved the pics. (Sorry)[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Sounds like you are advancing your kitty whackin' skills. The white bass and walleyes should be getting more active soon. Ditto for the big cats.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We should plan another floatilla and make it at the knolls. I got some big ol' biggun cats down there last year about this time. Just gotta time it right with weather, water temps and the stock market. Just kidding on the last one.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Of course the fishing will be getting better at LIncoln Beach too, and the facilities and ambience are much better there...especially if we have any families show up. Got albinotrout working on getting their schedule worked out so they can all join us on our next floatilla.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]By the way, that bitty whitie is only one of bajillions of those little buggers that are swarming around the lake right now. They are the young of the year white bass and they will be a big part of the diet of larger predators for the next few months. Use small hooks and worm to catch a bunch for bait...or use lures that are about the same size.[/#0000ff]

More trips to the Knolls or Lincoln, or anywhere for that mater, sounds great! I've got to maintain the burn rate of my vacation time (and sick time
)...
One thing left out of the great pictures I posted... was my new set of PVC I ran on the toon this time. The rack behind me where I had the two vertical pole holders is now updated with a similar setup but now with 4 vertical pole holders and a oar hook at each end to keep the oars out of the way more. Its made with the sched20 stuff this time around (thanks for that tip) so my other poles are now able to fit into the holders. I also made two new rod holders for up front and was able to attach a better string clip then I had before. They worked more consistently this time and I think that helped with the cats.

Right now mondays are good. How about the 21st?

[cool][#0000ff]Works for me. How about starting a new thread with the announcement and an informal poll of how many will be able to make it.[/#0000ff]
