I got a report from a reliable source on Monday that the fishing was turning on out on Bear Lake. I hit the lake on Friday morning about 7:00am. First off, I had a problem with my sonar since it was not giving a good, clear readout of the bottom so I was relegated to jigging blindly. I found 58' of water and anchored up. One hour, no fish. I then moved out to 66'. In the next hour I caught one cutthroat about 2.5lbs. Then after messing with the sonar and not knowing what I did, it started working perfectly. I immediately pulled anchor and started searching. I found fish stacked up (see pic)

in about 77' of water. They did not want a jig, so I hooked up the downriggers and switched to trolling. Within the next 2 hours I caught 6 lakers and they were all nice fish. They ranged from 9lbs up to 18lbs. I was by myself so I took the pics of the fish in the net since all were released. NOW[/u][/b] is the time to catch lake trout at Bear Lake. They are in pre-spawn and are feeding on cisco. They will stop eating in another month during their spawn and will be tougher to catch. So all you guys who like to go mac fishing at Bear Lake this is a great time of year.

Great report Scott, sure wish I could have gotten up there this weekend. One way or the other I'll be up there next Friday or Saturday. Congratulations on the nice macks. Were there many folks on the water with you?

Very nice my friend and thanks for the phone call with the tip. I made it out Saturday and managed one just under 10 Lbs but wind sent me home. I was going to go back out Sunday but weather report looked iffy so I did chores instead.
