I was invited to go to powell this past weekend with my fishing friend LettsFish. This was my first trip to powell. I was way excited to land a few stripers. We got there Friday at 9:30 am and headed to mouth of Knowles canyon. We marked a few fish and decided to drop spoons down to them. Then...Bam! I locked into about a 4 lbs striper. Awesome fighting fish! We managed to pull up about 6 until they vanished..... We fished for bass until the evening, catching a whole bunch. That evening we witnessed a small boil in bullfrog bay just before dark. We hooked into a few then.
Saturday we searched for boils with no luck. We did manage to land a few stripers spooning, when we marked small schools.
Sunday we were searching for boils again. then some fishermen we met at the dock came screaming by into a near by bay, we saw why! A HUGH boil was happening. We got into them and landed a few before they disapeared. It is totally wild to fish a boil. they are so much fun!
I will be back to fish the boils again!!![cool]

NIce job, those looked like some good, healthy stripers. I have never had as much fast action for big, good fighting fish then when fishing the boils down in Powell. I am jealous and now need to find a way to get someone to go down there and fish for the last week of Sept. .... Before the elk hunt starts.

Stripers are BEASTS!!! You think that 4 pounder fought, imagine a 35lb striper! There is a lake in Kentucky called Cumberland River Lake that grows them up to 50+ lbs! My wife's family is from that area, so we go alot. Biggest I caught last year was 35lbs! It was truly a battle. Fun fish. Nice report!
