The second picture with the "guide" looks so photoshopped! But it sure sounds like a legit story as of now. If that is all accurate, that is truly a brute. There are many fish swimming around in my dreams that haunt me each night....this one exceeds even those!
Anyone ever do the tour of the dam at FG and see the big brown they estimated at 48 inches? You could see him swimming around, and I'm sure he was at least that big. We did it in 2003 when we saw him. The dam guide told us that up until that year there had been one they estimated at close to 60 inches they'd see almost every night. They hadn't seen him in about 6+ months though, so they figured he must have died and just washed down stream somewhere. Definitely not caught, as that would have been big news.

You bring up a good point TS. In a recent magazine, a young woman caught a basket ball shaped Brown and was really proud of it, as the gentleman in another magazine that landed a HUGE brown out of the Madison I think.
Anyway, both fish were un-revivable. The magazines then came back at both these with little comments about how they KILLED these fish.
First off, the gals fish was PACKED with eggs and was not releasing any...not sure it would have survived anyway, and the gentleman's was probably at the end of it's life span as well.
I know I took crap for the 36"er.
Fishing is a BLOOD SPORT no two ways about it. All we can do is try the best we can at C&R, but OMG....if you catch the biggest fish of your life...enjoy it!
Sorry, I had to vent.
As far as the FG. I know some divers that are scared to go there!

If a fish dies at the hands of BG (Madison brown referred) it was not BG's fault. It was going to happen either way. He's one of the most conscientious fisherperson I know. Dude cares more about fish and fishes places than some people do about their own kids!
As for the browns I was talking about....they were in the river, not the lake. Although I've heard stories the lakers some of the divers find in FG as well. But yes, I saw the 48 incher (estimated) with my own eyes from above....and it was a specimen to behold!

No doubt on everything you said!

People gave you crap for releasing that fish? You should be praised! Not too many people would have been able to let a fish that size go. And like you said, why keep the fish when you know it was going to just waste. Too many people keep these trophies that end up like frozen logs in the bag of their freezers, destined for the trash. SAD!!! [frown]
I like fiberglass molds too. That way the fish lives, and I still get the memory on the wall! Depending on who makes them, they look great too!
Where did you catch this monster at?

No secret as it was in the papers, Henry's Lake. In fact the picture is included in the pictures for Red Rock Camping as that is where we were staying.
The day started out with a 26", then a 28". a couple of 30's" and then.....OMG!
Haven't seen that many big numbers in a row since.

Love Henry's Lake! Used to go there as a teenager on opening day and just kill them! Haven't been in there in too long. Need to get back.
