I'm heading up (from Rexburg) to henry's lake tommorrow unless it's pretty windy, taking my pontoon out. I'll be leaving about an hour before light and back by about 1:00 so just a quick trip, but If anybody want's to go consider yourself invited and let me know.

I was there yesterday. The weather was fairly hot with little to no breeze. The fishing was very slow. Our boat landed 2, the largest being a 20 inch cut. That was the biggest fish we seen caught all day.

I was there Wednesday , landed 8 cutthroughts . The biggest one was 16" . Where are all the big fish ? Curt G.

I was wondering the same myself. Yesterday had no reports of good fish caught, no hybrids or anything over 3 pounds. It was the first time I've been to Henry's Lake and not seen a huge fish brought in by somebody.

well Henry's turned out to be a bust. I tried by the hatchery, which was apparently the wrong spot (which happens to me quite a bit) and in the couple hours that I was there I didn't even get a sniff, so I drove back down to St. Anthony and caught a TON of small fish up to about a foot long, and one decent 16 inch rainbow. so it turned out to be pretty fun after all.

We are there right now. Sunday the 20th....WINDY!!!!!!
We each caught Brookies but smaller like 18" max.
Fished the rivers the rest of the day because of the wind:
Temps dropped last night and awoke to blue skies and 38 degrees warming to 57.
Fishing is slow. I was getting frustrated, tossing everything but the kitchen sink.
I had caught a couple in the 16" to 18" range (cutts). I decided to head back in when...BAM!
Made up for the rest of the day...LOL
28" @ 8 lbs.

That's one heck of a fish!
That does make me feel better about my being skunked if you're gettingfrustrated too (at least a little [
]). I think I'll wait till it gets a little colder till I try it again. My absolute favorite place to fish is the lower henry's fork, and that seems to be getting cooler and better fishing. but I still want a big henry's hybrid! So many places to fish, so little time! And then there's things that need to be shot: duck, elk, deer, turkey, birds.......

Nice work flygoddess! I was there on Friday-headed back this Wed. Three of us in my boat and we landed 13 but fished 11 hrs! Largest was a 4lb hybrid-all the rest were cutts in the 18-19" range. I watched an "ole' timer" catch at least 20 in a span of 2 hrs....!! Strippin leeches like we were but he obviously was doing something different. Fun to watch-someday I'll have earned my right to kick everyone's butt around me like he did!

Great fish Goddess,
I was on Henry's lake on saturday too.
It was not action packed for us, I was skunked, my wife caught a nice 19" on the way back to the dock trolling a worm. There was a older guy catching a fish every 5-10 min on a fly pole. he was grumpy and directing boats away from his hole. we are rookies but exited to go back soon. the scenery and the weather was great. Last week when with the wind I landed more fish for sure.
I used a 2x fly line and a brown leach pattern. I was low enough to bring in weeds on some of my casts. I also tried trolling a rapala and black spinner. No takes. My wife used worms, half of them were dead or nearly dead so I blame that for our slow day.

There were several flies that the fish took. I ran into an older regular Saturday morning. He was kind enough to give me what he was catching them on, but, it didn't work for me, or he was right on top of a honey hole.
Type II sinking line has been the answer for me. With maybe a 4' 6lb fluorocarbon leader.
[signature]
Did you say you only use a 4 foot leader? and I think I've also heard you say that you don't use tapered leaders with sinking line, why is this if you don't mink my asking?
[signature]
Tapered leaders help the fly turn over nice. A must when dry fly fishing, but presentation is not an issue when using a sinking line.
I will add straight mono/fluoro but I do play with length to get in the zones.
4' to 6' on the bigger flies and 3' to 4' on the smaller ("Y" connection)
I will use a taper leader on rivers but only because I am switching from dry to nymph. And then I use a furled leader.
Check out Kelly Galloup's video...he talkes about not needing tapered leaders also on streamers.

Call me. I answered your pm and Thursday evening could be fun. Even Lynn is talking about coming up.
Slayer...they are in there. I am sooooo mad. I had one this morning that was over the 32" easily.
I use a large guide net and this one didn't fit in it!.
I was by myself and it was a hog. I could not get it to come up till the last of 15 minutes. Got the head up and it was right between my legs on the pontoon, but tried to scoop it up in my net. Got half in and HE flipped and was gone. NO PICTURE! But like I said...over 32".
Ended up with a few smaller before the wind made us get off around 10.

[inline "henrey's lake cutthroat.jpg"]Here's one of Mondays catch. Solid fishing throughout the morn till the wind blew us off. landed around 12-15 and missed as many Hlloween was a good choice that day.
