Fished Strawberry today with MisterCompletely and my grandson. The catching was excellent almost all day long, after we moved to the right spot about 9:00 AM or so. Never moved the rest of the day. We had many doubles and one triple. Let my grandson drive the boat back and I didn't pay enough attention and he cut a point too close and hit bottom. The prop protector (thank goodnes it was on there) helped a bunch but the prop still got chewed up a bunch. Then I left my Leatherman up there. If someone heads up there in the morning I would appreciate you checking the first thing and see if by some miracle it is still there on the west side on the north end of the cleaning station.

Sounds like a good day until the end. How much damage did it do?

Just curious ...
Were you jigging, casting, or trolling?
Did you happen to make note of the water temps?
Sounds like a great day. Reading your report gets me pretty excited about the Salsa Boyz Party since I won't be able to get down there before then.

Kent - Why don't you give the marina (435-548-2261) a call and see if they can check on your Leatherman?

I was up there on Friday and the water temp was 65 degrees on the North side of the lake.
My best success came from casting/trolling tube jigs tipped with chub meat. Also, fished Rapalas and Flatfish on a downriggger at a depth of between 17 and 22 ft of water. Total overall depth of water was 35 ft. Speed of boat was 1.5 mph.
If you don't get a bite every 10 minutes or so, check your lure/jig for weeds. The weeds were kinda of thick on the Ladders/Chicken Creek side.

The prop can be used in an emergency (I will go back to my previous prop that is in great shape but pitched higher than I would like. It also broke a few pieces of metal out in a few areas, but seems to still be functional. It makes me sick to be so careless.

I try to avoid trolling like the plaque, I think that I have trolled for about 30 minutes the entire year. All fish were caught vertically, except for two. Jigs were tipped with minnow or 1/2 of a crawler. Fish seem to be quite concentrated, so one will likely have a great day or a lousy day (if they jig). One was caught by casting and retrieving my jig, the other one was caught casting and bouncing the jig back to the boat. I gave you the water temps on your other thread.

I already called them last evening, and the young lady I spoke did not offer to go see if it was still at the cleaning station and it hadn't been turned in. I will call again today.

Did you hit the shallow point out from mosquito bay? That one comes way out there... We hit that one once. Not very nice to the prop! Thanks for the report!

No we hit the shallow point that comes off of the tiny island on the south end of The Knolls.
I have hit the one you described before (the only other place that I have hit bottom at the Berry) in one of my prior boats.

Ya that one can get kinda interesting as well. Have not hit it but have seen it. At the current water level it can be a little hard to see. Glad I am not the only prop banger that has hit the one off of mosquito bay. Somehow makes me feel better! [

I am hoping to get up to strawberry this fall. I have managed to fish once since ice off and it was an exercise in humility catching 1 fish in 6 hours....

Kent,
I hit that exact island several years ago and completely destroyed my prop. Had to motor in with the kicker motor. Since then I carry a spare.
Sounds like a great day fishing besides the troubles.

I hate to admit it, but I barely (no damage to prop or anything else) hit that island awhile back and knew that it was dangerous. I just wasn't paying close enough attention while my grandson was passing by it.
