I was out fishing the other day and i noticed something that was kinda cool. I was by this little water fall and i seen trout flying out of the water like they where trying to get up the water fall. I did not know trout done this i thought only salmon and what not done this?? Was this just the "NATURAL" thing for trout to do??? There was 3 and 4 at a time then there was 1 or maybe 2 and some would just barely poke there head up out of the water and some would just FLY out.....It just seemed kinda neat seeing this and the fish bouncing off the rocks and back into the water.. Sorry for such a stupid Q im not the smartest fishing guy out there i know......

Trout will also go upstream to spawn sometimes. Especially if they usually live in a lake.

AWWWW! Thank you.. Is this Rainbow's spawning time now?? I usually dont care about Rainbow's but after seeing these i thought id ask..

I don't think it is Rainbow spawn, but Brookies and Browns, but I can't swear to that.
Sure it was a Rainbow? Not a Salmon or Steelhead?

i was up blacksmith fork the other night below the little damn and the browns were trying to go up that waterfall. some of them must of came out of the water 5 or 6 ft.

Most natural fish that are lake bound most of the time will head up to the stream that they were spawned at. If jumping is required they will jump. Right now it is the Brookies and the browns spawn. Rainbows adn cutts spawn in the spring, this is why we have hybrids in the snake.

I'm down in SE Idaho and i seen red on there sides so im sure they where Rainbows where there isnt any salmon or Steelhead here. But i could be wrong like i said im not all that good with the trout deal so... Normally i dont fish for Rainbows and such so im clueless..

THANK YOU..It took many shots to get that one lol. I never seen this before in person and thought it was way kewl... I guess it could be im not sure i didnt know we had salmon other then Kokanee's down this far in Idaho???

koke would be red at this time i imagine and if it was a younger one would probly be silver that looks like a bow to me. Fish also migrate to diffrent areas during the fall months preparing to ride out the winter. Wouldnt suprise me if they were rainbows.

Yeah that's why at first i asked about Rainbow's but i don't know.... Thanks again everyone....

I've seen cuts and browns smack the cement head gates near Heise so hard that you're
sure they committed suicide! It's got to be a natural instinct. If you live around SE ID.
Head up to heise and go the the "Big Feeder"-one with orange controls for the gates.
It should only take you 10 min to see them jumping/trying to go UP river.

I have seen them hit it and slide down the cement and thought no way that fish lived but never have seen one float down. but still amazes me.
